Week 1 - Introductions - a bit of butter
http://www.abitofbutter.com/2011/10/03/week-1-introductions
A bit of butter. The things I do and the stuff I like. Week 1 – Introductions. It’s real. I’m here. And it’s better than I could have imagined. After many, many months of build up and countless retellings of what I intended to be doing at the end of September, I have finally begun classes at The School of Artisan Food. The weekend was spent settling into the student accommodation in somewhat dreary Creswell. Rural England, learning how to make bread, cheese or meat. And to bakery by Emmanuel Hadjiandreou.
Week 27 - London (again) part two - a bit of butter

A bit of butter. The things I do and the stuff I like. Week 27 – London (again) part two. My second week in London has been a great experience. At E5. Tuesday was the highlight of my week by a mile. After my shift at E5 I made my way to Harrods, via Bea’s of Bloomsbury. For a quick cake stop. And have my book signed. She seemed like a very vibrant and lovely woman and I’m amazed at how far she has come from the very simple beginnings of running a restaurant from her home in Paris. June 3, 2012.
Week 25 - France - a bit of butter
http://www.abitofbutter.com/things-i-do/the-school-of-artisan-food/week-25-france
A bit of butter. The things I do and the stuff I like. Week 25 – France. It may have been the first week back after the Easter break, but we weren’t going to ease ourselves back into the routine. Nope. We were going to pack our bags, hop in the school mini-bus for eight hours and drive ourselves to France! The purpose of the trip was to visit the headquarters of Lesaffre. Week 39 - The end. - a bit of butter
http://www.abitofbutter.com/things-i-do/the-school-of-artisan-food/week-39-the-end
A bit of butter. The things I do and the stuff I like. Week 39 – The end. That’s it. It’s all over. Thirty-nine weeks, hundreds of kilos of flour and many thousands of pounds have passed since I started at the School of Artisan Food. It has been quite a journey and not at all what I expected before I got here. Some aspects of the course weren’t quite up to the high standards I’d been promised from their glossy website. Posts Tagged ‘wisdom’. Wednesday, August 12th, 2015. I have recently been working for a physiotherapist in Nedlands, writing a few odds and bobs for them. Jeremy and Elle Wisdom are potentially the nicest people on earth. Every time I see them they buy me coffee, and the fact that we met while drinking wine shows how awesome they are. So far I have had an initial assessment, one class and one private session and I feel GREAT! You can read about my pilates adventures on the Wisdom Physiotherapy website.

Posts Tagged ‘friends’. Laquo; Older Entries. Monday, September 7th, 2015. A month or so ago, I asked my friend Steve what I should write a blog post about and he gave the usual response that most people give Write about me. I gave him the terms and conditions that I would deliver a true and honest report of him and that it would require a photograph. He agreed. And so here it is. Steve likes to pretend he is tough but actually he’s not. He is what I like to call a ‘grumpy arse’ and he almost always ...

Posts Tagged ‘Visa’. Laquo; Older Entries. Monday, February 1st, 2016. Yesterday was the one year mark for how much longer I have in the UK until I am kicked out (again.) Although I have realised I have chosen an excellent year to buy myself a student visa as I get a BONUS DAY on the 29th February! Sure, I will be in Holland on that exact day, but still. I’m quite pleased about this extra time I managed to weasel out of the British Government. Ha! A win for Jess. Posted in Zaum in England. I realised I h...

April 8, 2012. This week I am in Scotland, staying with my brother and his wife. They have just bought some chickens so it has been quite good fun helping to feed them. Today two of them ate corn from my hand which was very cool. I also discovered that I have my own clan and tartan. Very cool. My clan and tartan. This week has been quite a nice holiday for me, so I haven’t made all that much. But I was put in charge of dessert the other day and whipped up a mango filo tart. It had mascarpon...You are com...

Blink and it’s scone…. May 20, 2012. This week started out on a bit of a high. I got a few essay results back and I had done much better than I had expected to so that was a really nice boost. Unfortunately the rest of the week didn’ t pan out quite so well. Potato, cheese and wild garlic flower focaccia. Thursday was a bit better, mostly because there was more to bake off and also because the jobs were shared out a bit more fairly so I didn’t have to do all the washing up. Bread ready for market. You ar...
