Yesterday, instead of going to work, Kevin drove to the Tipton County Animal Shelter and picked up the newest member of our family: yellow lab mix Mia. Sandy on the left. Mia in the cage. Neither of them fully understand this adventure yet! Ticks removed. Kevin and I removed a dozen more after work. We’re crossing our fingers we found them all. I’ve made a few changes around the ol’ blog. The most obvious one, of course, is the new background. I like it. Simple. Pop of color. And that’s fine. Feel free to comment or email me and say hi. Or just keep reading. I hope I can entertain you a bit! According to my blog stats, that search draws quite a few people to me! I’m no...

Skip to main content. Skip to secondary content. I'm Anna. I live in Memphis. I like to have fun. This Weekend →. Facebook Etiquette: Rude to Unfriend? February 23, 2011. At my bachelorette party in the woods last weekend (update still to come), we started talking about Facebook etiquette and when it’s okay to unfriend someone. I countered with the argument that if I didn’t want to keep in touch with someone in the first place, Facebook isn’t going make me change my mind. What do you think? I have this w...

Skip to main content. Skip to secondary content. I'm Anna. I live in Memphis. I like to have fun. Give Me Good Beer. October 31, 2011. I’m usually not the “Christmas creep” type. The music and laughter and thought of buying gifts (and hopefully not forgetting anyone! Makes me anxious. I enjoy a mug of hot chocolate and a carol the week before Christmas. I always prefer to add pomegranate seeds to my glasses of champagne. And I rush through my shopping and wrapping with little time to spare. Notify me of ...

Queen Ketchup: On The Other Side
http://queenketchup.blogspot.com/2013/12/on-other-side.html
Wednesday, December 18, 2013. On The Other Side. I'm happy to say that we made it! To St Louis, of course - but also, generally, we made it through the last month and a half. To briefly recap, Jonathan started his job in St. Louis the 2nd Monday of November, so Bates and I had almost 3 weeks alone in Memphis without him. Not sure if I have any single parent readers - or maybe some of you have spouses who travel a lot? Either way, my hat goes off to you! Bates loves to play with his big cousins (and I lov...
Queen Ketchup: Ketchup
http://queenketchup.blogspot.com/p/ketchup.html
I love ketchup. When I was a kid, I called it "kee-ko." At an early age I learned that french fries/chips/anything can act as vehicles to get more ketchup in your mouth (condiment schmondiment). I've been known to eat plain ketchup with a spoon. I can tell the difference between Heinz and Hunts (and prefer Hunts) and am always on the lookout for new ketchup products. I will happily put ketchup on many, many foods and eat it at least once a day. I know it's high in sugar and sodium. The Birth of Griffin.
Queen Ketchup: March 2014
http://queenketchup.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 27, 2014. Spring Has NOT Sprung. Used to tell me April was one of the hardest months of the year living in Chicago because of the weather. Basically, it's April. So you feel like it should be warm (since, you know, Spring), but it's actually not warm yet. Sometimes it's still really cold. And sometimes it snows. But when I heard this as a Memphian, I thought to myself, "well, at least you have. But either way, Summer here is still really hot. Maybe Fall is the magical season here? Absolut...
Queen Ketchup: Fetal Friday? (19 Weeks)
http://queenketchup.blogspot.com/2014/02/fetal-friday-19-weeks.html
Friday, February 7, 2014. Oh what the heck - how about the return of Fetal Friday for a few weeks of this pregnancy! Right now I'm at 19 Weeks. Most people have probably heard that one's first pregnancy is very different from any subsequent pregnancies - and in my personal experience, this is quite true! I don't mean to downplay this one at all - because of course, we are PUMPED about a new baby - but just in terms of thinking. About the pregnancy, it is very low. So with that to say, I feel great! It's ...
Queen Ketchup: Thoughts On A Move
http://queenketchup.blogspot.com/2013/11/thoughts-on-move.html
Friday, November 1, 2013. Thoughts On A Move. Even though we had discussed the possibility of moving to St. Louis, in my mind, we weren't brave enough to actually do it. That is, leave this city that we love - Jonathan's parents, our friends, our awesome church community - to start all over again. Would grow up, envision the schools our kids might attend, think about the neighborhoods in which we might buy our "grown-up" house. There's a certain level of adventure, of course, which adds some excitement t...
Queen Ketchup: Pregnancy

Symptoms I have are cysts on the ovaries and an abnormal ratio of lutenizing hormone (LH) to follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). I documented my whole pregnancy on the blog:. The day we found out. On his due date, February 26, 2012. We didn't know the sex, so our baby boy was a wonderful surprise. Subscribe to: ...
Queen Ketchup: My Toes Can Tell The Story
http://queenketchup.blogspot.com/2014/01/my-toes-can-tell-story.html
Thursday, January 16, 2014. My Toes Can Tell The Story. Six months ago, this was a beautiful, fresh pedicure:. Bates and I spent a week at my mom's house in July and she watched him one day so I could go to the nail salon. I usually get my toes done about once a month during sandal season, but this past summer I didn't. I looked at my pitiful toes the other day and thought how much this pink polish has seen in the past six months. We worked hard and fast to get our house ready to go on the market. Maybe ...
Queen Ketchup: Natural Childbirth
http://queenketchup.blogspot.com/p/birth-story.html
Before I was even pregnant, I was interested in natural childbirth. I loved the idea of a woman's body doing what it was designed to do. I also liked the idea of a woman's mental stamina pulling her through intense pain to let her body perform exactly as it was designed to perform. During my pregnancy, I wanted to be as informed as possible about what was going to happen during labor. We attended a 4-week class on general pregnancy/childbirth info (offered by my OBGYN's office). We attended 2 cla...By Su...

Queen Ketchup: July 2014
http://queenketchup.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 31, 2014. The Birth of Griffin. Well, I woke up at 2am on the 4. Of July and started having contractions. They were only 30 seconds long and weren’t super painful. They were also pretty far apart, so I just lay in bed and breathed through them (and tried to rest my eyes between each one). I looked at the clock and thought, “I’m going to have a baby by this afternoon! Around 6am, I woke Jonathan up and said, “we’re going to have a baby today! When we walked up to the desk in L&D, I had a co...

Anna in la Belle France
Anna in la Belle France. Living in France (and teaching English too). Saturday, June 5, 2010. The last week in Orléans was busy and stressful, so the blog was put on hold. Since being home, I've had time to finish my post about Ireland and the South of France as well as posting my thoughts on leaving and my joy of the French seasons. There are 3 new posts below and I'm currently working on one about being "on the other side". 160; Will I feel the same? 160; It’s a big question. . Some of the Seasons.

Adventures in Mali!
Wednesday, August 26, 2009. The Toughest Job You'll Ever Love. Before I left for Mali, I heard Peace Corps described as “the toughest job you’ll ever love”. Boy is that true. From language barriers to cultural differences to being a replacement volunteer to staring starvation in the face to feeling completely inept and useless to loneliness and homesickness to anemia, giardia and heat rash, the last two years have been far from easy. But. The sky – extraordinary sunrises, sunsets and starry nights. Walki...

Diving in head first and writing what i can. Anna in med school. I’m a doctor. I graduated from medical school this past Saturday–surreal, to say the very least :). To be honest, I was a bit of a nervous wreck during the ceremony…not that I would trip or, for some reason, not receive my diploma, but that my poor kids wouldn’t make it through the 2 -hour ceremony. Ugh, they were troopers, as were John and my brother Stephan who were tasked with entertaining them. 8220;Dr. Anna Jesus.” And we...Almost exac...

Real Life, Maybe
Real Life, Maybe. Thursday, December 2, 2010. My 80 year old prof in his raspy old-man voice was talking to us about grades today:. I should tell you all about the time a student approached me, and said. 'I have problems.'". That's not all. Then she said 'I'm bipolar.'". Then she said 'I have a drinking problem.'". Astounded at this point]. And finally she said 'I'm suicidal and if you fail me it'll be your fault that I kill myself.'". What did you say? Innocently] "I didn't say anything.". But I know, I...
