http://balconygardener.ca/pots-and-pieces/wind-breaks

What I’m Reading. Pots and Pieces Wind Breaks. Wind is one of the biggest challenges a balcony gardener can face. I’m often surprised at how strong and gusty it can be here on the prairies. Here’s a selection of wind breaks that I’ve tried or seen others use. Some wind breaks can also double as privacy screens. Grass or plastic cloches. Not only keep young plants warm, but also block the wind. And my simple bamboo. Have been set into cement, and river rocks have also been set into the cement base. Th...

What I’m Reading. CONTAINER GARDENING 11 FLOORS UP. Journal Journey Part 1. January 1, 2009 – 10:00 am. I used to have a large perennial and rose garden before gardening on the balcony. I kept a journal each year so I could build and diversify my plant portfolio and frankly, remember where I planted fall and spring bulbs and how large some perennials grew. In 1989 my inexperience was balanced with an earnest desire to build a garden like Larkwhistle. How hard could it be? I had the book. March 9, 2010.

I'm not sure what this trellis was in its previous life - two long segments and two short ones. They're just kind of sitting on the ground now in the Back 40.
