Musing - Lori East Quilts
https://lorieast.com/musing
I’m musing on something this morning…Lately I’ve heard a lot of folks talking about the criteria for judging quilts in shows. Some say that the the criteria for winning quilts are too hard to achieve, some say there are no clear criteria at all. Different shows weight different elements separately, others judge quilts with an overall approach. Is this the best way? I am really curious. Should it weigh more heavily than quilting? Or should it weigh equally? Are the current methods fair? What do you think?

April 20, 2014. Leave a comment on Happy Resurrection Day! A Good Good Friday. It’s Good Friday. A good day. The best worst day ever. Do you know why? It’s an old, old story. One that ends, or perhaps just begins on Easter Sunday and has nothing at all to do with bunnies. A very good day. I got to have lunch out with my two best fellas today, at a little deli on our town’s square. The courthouse sits smack in the middle of the square and is always a lovely sight. Did you know henbit. Here’s one of ...

http://indigothreads.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-sisterhood-of-traveling-round-robin.html
Wednesday, June 03, 2015. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Round Robin - Part One. We're almost at the half-way point in this block exchange. I've done 7 blocks, and there are 16 of us in this exchange. I thought you might like to see how things are shaping up so far. You can see my first post about the Traveling Round Robin here. Here's what I've done so far, along with that person's total blocks that were in the passed box. First, here's my block I made for me:. The first block I did was B's. Grin* So f...

Indigo Threads: Decisions, Decisions
http://indigothreads.blogspot.com/2015/02/decisions-decisions.html
Tuesday, February 17, 2015. My Mystery Quilt fabics. I even had enough of the dragonfly print background fabric as well. Both the wild print and the background fabrics have been in my stash for a few years. I did have to buy the green fabric, but that wasn't a problem. *grin*. My Traveling Round Robin fabrics. You can see the pillowcase I made from this fabric here. The next, hardest decision was which block to make? Nice enough, but not really "it". Not too bad for scraps, huh? Here is the block I decid...

The Root Connection: Mug rugs
http://therootconnection.blogspot.com/2015/05/mug-rugs.html
A quilt story I really want to tell. Friday, May 22, 2015. They can pack so much punch! They can be framed, or hung on the wall. They can fill up a sad looking spot in the house with colors and texture. I made one on Tuesday for an exchange at Philadelphia Modern Quilt Guild. I would rather call them mini art quilts. Little bits and pieces of scraps-confetti found its way into a square. Three design elements - colors, textures and contrast - randomly chosen but mindfully put together. They are looking pr...

Indigo Threads: A Little Eye Candy
http://indigothreads.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-little-eye-candy_26.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. A Little Eye Candy. When I was at the fair last weekend, I managed to get photos of some of the quilts there. Unfortunately, I didn't get the names of the quilters, so I can't give credit like I should. Some of these quilts were made for charity. I love the boxer shorts! A Quilt of Valor, made from a panel. I've been working on various projects lately, and I've made some progress on my long-term black and white quilt. First part of the blocks. The rest of the blocks. Thanks for sha...

http://artinsearch.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2015. One of my art teacher friends had a birthday and we had a lovely garden luncheon. Terri loves handmade items. I thought I would use some of my made batik fabric and make coasters (5 x 5 finished). I doubled the batting to make them more substantial. I quilted with variegated thread in a square spiral. All on the 301. All ready to go. Front of birthday card, streamers up. Front of birthday card, streamers down. Thursday, July 23, 2015. Strips with blacks quilted. The blocks are t...

http://artinsearch.blogspot.com/2015/07/kit-rearranged.html
Wednesday, July 22, 2015. A couple of years ago, Connecting Threads had a huge Black Friday sale. I bought a lot of precuts and one kit that was priced below $10. I asked my mother to sew sets of three strips WOF for me. I have had these sitting around. This was the kit picture with leaf appliques. My arrangement sewn together. Thin borders between provided fabric borders. July 29, 2015 at 7:39 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Strips with blacks quilted. Little purse for little lady. Square in a s...

The Root Connection: Introducing Rail Fence Quilt Along
http://therootconnection.blogspot.com/2015/07/introducing-rail-fence-quilt-along.html
A quilt story I really want to tell. Friday, July 31, 2015. Introducing Rail Fence Quilt Along. Few of you have asked to start a quilt-along based on free-form block from my book. At the moment, rail fence is the quilt that's getting all of your attention. I think it is a great quilt to make. Considering what I went through while choosing the layout, I am hoping you all will go through the same dilemma. At first fabric selection was the most fun part. So I thought! I made a button for the QAL. Hooray!
