Dave in Suomi: February 2007

http://daveinsuomi.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html

Dave's adventures in Finland. Monday, February 26, 2007. This weekend's musuem was the Postal Museum of Finland. A museum of the history of mail delivery and stamps. For those who didn't know, I was an avid stamp collector as a child. The collection still resides in my childhood home, untouched for the last five or six years when I ran out of stamp hinges. Fortunately, the Postal Museum of Finland Gift Shop had the solution to my dilemma! So, I will regain the fun of my youth next time I'm home. In all, ...

http://daveinsuomi.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html

Dave's adventures in Finland. Thursday, April 26, 2007. European Geosciences Union meeting in Vienna. I did attend some really well-presented and interesting sessions, especially the Dynamical Meteorology session organized by Conny Schwierz and the session on communicating natural hazards. I was even surprised by a nice session on gravity waves late on Friday afternoon. The conference ended late on Friday, afterwhich I changed hotels and started my vacation. Posted by David Schultz @ 5:17 PM. Finland is ...

Dave in Suomi: January 2007

http://daveinsuomi.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Dave's adventures in Finland. Wednesday, January 31, 2007. Originally, I had started this blog to communicate to friends and family back home in the USA. I purposefully did not tell anyone in Finland about the site so that I could blog more freely. Slowly, more Finns have found my page, including my friends and coworkers. My thoughts are no longer as private as I wanted them to be. So, I cannot live this secret life anymore. Welcome Finns! Posted by David Schultz @ 3:56 PM. Should be "farther"] to north.

Dave in Suomi: July 2007

http://daveinsuomi.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Dave's adventures in Finland. Tuesday, July 31, 2007. Forecasters: Finland versus the US. As I learn more about forecasting and meteorological education in Finland, I am increasingly surprised at the differences between forecasters between the two countries. If you talk to meteorology undergraduates in the US, you will run into a significant fraction of them who are dying to get jobs in the US National Weather Service (NWS). That is their career goal: they just want to forecast for the NWS. Days are gett...

Wednesday, February 21, 2007. Big news: major hot water pipeline broke in Vantaa last night. 150 000 homes were without heating. They say flats cool one degree in 3 hours (tells something about insulation, and why we have double doors and triple windows). Detached houses cooled faster, but most of them have an alternative heating system or at least a sauna. Yes, breakages happen, but less often than in direct electricity heating, and as the local systems have quite big mass, cooling happens slowly. Ice l...

http://backinhelsinki.blogspot.com/2007/02/we-are-famous.html

Thursday, February 1, 2007. Has noticed frequent comments, and even asked his co-workers whether we are them! How do you make a flattered smiley? The things which lead to opening of this blog were. Two us us get frequent visits of former co-workers , who travel so much they want to see something else than the hotel lobby and minibar. The hosts keep needing links to sport-places etc. Two of us (but not the same two) wanted to comment blogs which do not allow anonymous comments. View my complete profile.

Pedaling Thoughts from Dave

Monday, March 10, 2014. Has it really been three months since I last updated this blog. I guess so. Just because I have not blogged does not mean things have been standing still for us. In fact construction is almost done. Elizabeth is so ready to move. In fact one day she had enough of this apartment and we went to the house and she read a book. Do you like the new designer furniture? This picture is of the laundry room. That tile is in all the "wet" areas. And this is a view from outside. Here is a vie...

Dave in Texas | Daylight Savings Time is Here!

Daylight Savings Time is Here! January 30, 2010. Posted by daveintexas in uh. Hey Here’s a Reason to Put Up a New Post Here. July 4, 2008. Posted by daveintexas in uh. Today was the Belton Texas 4th of July Parade, one they’ve held for almost 100 years. Last time I watched it (hey, it’s hot here in July) was when my youngest was on a float, waving at me). Wanted to give you a little taste of small town Texas on the 4th. Without burnin AoS or IB bandwidth. All my best to you and yours this Independence Day.
