.: Busting Food Myths with Nicole Senior

http://ginews.blogspot.com/2011/05/busting-food-myths-with-nicole-senior.html

Busting Food Myths with Nicole Senior. Myth: People with diabetes shouldn’t eat sugar. Fact: People with diabetes can enjoy sugar in moderation as part of a healthy diet. Do you believe that all chocolate and candy or lollies cause a rapid spike and then crash in blood glucose levels? The anti-sugar message has also soiled the reputation of all carbohydrates, promoting the use of low-carb diets. Besides the obvious nutritional problems of cutting out grains, fruits, dairy and starchy vegetables, new ...

Low GI Food of the Month. Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) is a small, round, quick-cooking grain somewhat similar in colour to sesame seeds. It’s a nutritional powerpack an excellent source of low GI carbs, fibre and protein, and rich in B vitamins and minerals including iron, phosphorus, magnesium and zinc. You can also buy quinoa flakes and quinoa flour, but GI of these products has not yet been published. Photo: Ian Hofstetter, The Low GI Diet Cookbook. Check out Rebecca Wood’s. .: Low GI Food of the Month

http://ginews.blogspot.com/2005/11/low-gi-food-of-month.html

Low GI Food of the Month. Traditional rolled oats are hulled, steamed and flattened, which makes them a wholegrain cereal. The additional flaking to produce quick cooking or ‘instant’ oats not only speeds up cooking time, it increases the rate of digestion and the GI. This is why traditional rolled oats are preferred over instant in the low GI diet. Chopped fresh fruit or mixed berries. Unsweetened canned plums or peaches in natural juice. A tablespoon or two of dried fruit such as chopped apricots.
