Kate's Travels

Tuesday, June 16, 2015. For week two we drove across the centre of Grande Terre, through small villages and along windy roads back to Point- à. Pitre which is at the end of Grande Terre, from there the bridge which links the two islands takes you across mangrove swamp to Basse Terre. The difference in the geography was immediately obvious; the vegetation was much lusher and after turning right across much more hilly! Route de la travers é. View from Route de la Traversee. Kate's Travels: October 2008

http://www.kateonthemove.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 31, 2008. Cambodia and the Temples. After a beer in the quiet surroundings of the hotel bar (which had a swing bed), we dressed for the evening (long trousers) and took a tuk-tuk to the Night Market a few streets over. Here we haggled like mad and bought some examples of the local handiwork; mainly silver and silk scarves. After a plum mojito and a sandwich we headed back to the hotel and bed. Kate's Travels: October 2005

http://www.kateonthemove.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 15, 2005. In heaven there is paradise, on earth there is. Which meant we were sitting on the bottom of a three-bunk tier, and in fact weren’t that uncomfortable, although we were a little numb after three hours. We had some local specialities for lunch including fried pear and lily root, and a soup made from a local vegetable which grows only in the lake, no English name but is a kind of spinachy/cressy thing with no taste. After lunch we started walking around the lake. It has a large ...

Kate's Travels: September 2005

http://www.kateonthemove.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 18, 2005. We didn't get to Carrefour needless to say! This weekend has been the Moon festival, where everyone eats moon cakes (they're given as gifts). They were given out at work, and some had raw egg in the middle, happily I could plead vegetarianism (can cover many things! And I got one with walnuts in, I think. I did think it was a bean one, but I also got a bean one from the hotel, and the one I had at work was different! After that we decided to do one of the walking tours of the ...

Kate's Travels: Ihla de Santa Catarina

http://www.kateonthemove.blogspot.com/2010/09/ihla-de-santa-catarina.html

Monday, September 27, 2010. Ihla de Santa Catarina. In fact there are just under fifty beaches on the island, and they are not small! Some birds I recognised from Iguaçu Falls last year, but I still don’t know what they are! The restaurant is called Ostradamus worth looking up if you're ever in the area! After lunch we lay on the beach and watched the surfers, but frankly it was a little cold. So after a couple of hours we returned to the inn to prepare for our Saturday night on the town. Tall Buildings&...

Kate's Travels: November 2010

http://www.kateonthemove.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 14, 2010. Spring is springing here in BsAs, the grass is green, and there's no doubt at all as to where the birdies are outside my window at the crack of dawn! I don't recognise the sound of the bird in question; he is, however, very rau. Cous I've kept my eye and ear out for him whilst running in the morning but to no avail. On Sunday, a sc. After lunch we had a wander around the gardens, offering photo opportunities as subjects and photographers for some in our party, and for many soci...

Kate On the Cobblestone

Kate On the Cobblestone. Wednesday, September 21, 2016. Vegas Vacation - in August. We flew Spirit Airlines - and though most people complain about Spirit - I paid extra so we could have the front row seats and for us to check baggage - and it was fabulous. The flight attendants love their jobs and are apparently the most high paid in the industry. Who knew? Anyway, off we went. First stop: Margaritas (by the pitcher) @Border Grill. We ate some amazing food! Aureole (not to be confused with a nipple).

The Road Less Traveled. Places I’ve Lived. Success, Failure and What’s Next…. May 26, 2015. After hearing the news that my hike on the Continental Divide Trail was over for the summer, I jumped on a plane to Australia and surprised my parents by arriving at their house unannounced. They were pretty shocked because I’d talked to them about 30 hours earlier from New Mexico and had told them I was headed back home to Salt Lake City. Ha! I’ve spent the past few weeks placing orders for over $3000 of berry and herbs plants and seeds. Check it out over at Foraged and Sown. I’ll be selling herb and berry seedlings, bare root berry plants (and a few hazelnuts and chestnut trees), fresh cut herbs and dried herb blends. If you’re local to Columbus, and you’re interested in any of the above, drop me a line. Another deve...
