http://motherofallscientists.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Mother of All Scientists. Cause Science is a Bitch. Friday, November 21, 2008. Hit me on the arm. So you can kiss it better. Somehow I'm not mad. Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Mother of All Scientists: How novel
http://motherofallscientists.blogspot.com/2010/04/how-novel.html
Mother of All Scientists. Cause Science is a Bitch. Saturday, April 24, 2010. I'm sitting in a coffee shop by myself right now, and in a few minutes I'm going to a lovely salon to get my haircut for the first time in 8 months. When I left the house, Bug, Bean, and Husband were all napping. The freedom to sit alone, enjoying a cup of coffee, with absolutely nothing to do is absolutely delicious. I really need more moments to myself. April 24, 2010 at 4:39 PM. I hope it turned out amazing! A molecular biol...
Mother of All Scientists: All grown up
http://motherofallscientists.blogspot.com/2009/07/all-grown-up.html
Mother of All Scientists. Cause Science is a Bitch. Tuesday, July 14, 2009. This weekend Bean spent all of her waking hours in underwear. And, through diligent watch checking by her parents, Bean kept her underwear clean and dry all weekend! Sometimes I think my baby girl is gone, but then she cuddles against me for a story and sucks her thumb and I still have to lean down to put my head in her hair. Baby Bean, I love you so much. I'm so proud of you my big girl. July 14, 2009 at 10:36 AM. Your blog is...

But my mama sure likes it. 2 Have you ever smoked? 3 Do you own a gun? 4 What flavor Kool-Aid was your favorite? 5 Do you get nervous before doctor appointments? Nope, but I scream like hell when the doctor starts trying to examine me. 6 What do you think of hot dogs? 7 Favorite Christmas movie? 8 What do you prefer to drink in the morning? 9 Can you do push-ups? I got a h...

Mother of All Scientists. Cause Science is a Bitch. Friday, June 25, 2010. And is generally planning on doing a second search this fall. However, he's also looking at industry job postings. I think the job search left him pretty disillusioned with academia. Articles like this one. Labels: Im an idiot. Teaching you a thing or two. Im just a random person on the internet, but believe me when I tell you, youre doing the right thing. Science is not an alter to sacrifice your life on. June 25, 2010 at 9:36 PM.

Scientia matris: When bugging your senior colleague is futile
http://scientiamatris.blogspot.com/2008/11/when-bugging-your-senior-colleague-is.html
Tuesday, November 25, 2008. When bugging your senior colleague is futile. Papers are a significant issue for me right now. Kids got in the way of steady output. That and writing 55 grants in four years, being the 'go-to' girl for all problems in my previous lab. The glue. No track record. UNfundable. So, I've been proactive and tried to implement a plan for publications with my old mentor. He agreed to a paper per week until they're all out (there's 15! But of course in the first week renegs.

And the world's my oyster). June 07, 2008. Weinerbrød, and something's rotten (but NOT the weinerbrød). I don't know, but there was all kinds of contemporary art installations throughout. It was sort of strange to have these mega-modern paintings in the royal portrait gallery, and some of the video installations were downright distracting. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). http://whereintheworldblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/london-daze.html
And the world's my oyster). June 22, 2008. In the interest of full disclosure and honesty, I will now say that the bus rides in Norway are not the oh my god most expensive things ever. At 8 dollars US, they are the same price as a tube ride in London. Yikes So much for exemplary public transit in the rest of the world. I mean, I love the tube, but I will take a 2 dollar subway ride, thanks. And tomorrow is Oxford Street. I hope I'm ready for it. I can't believe you'll be home so soon! We're ready for you!

on the move: taste of stockholm
http://whereintheworldblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/taste-of-stockholm.html
And the world's my oyster). June 10, 2008. Stockholm is really gorgeous, y'all. It's hard to go wrong when the city is built on several different islands that make up its cute little neighborhoods, the architecture is all affluent old-European, and the weather is still enough to make a Californian go, "oooo, pretty day." But still: gorgeous city. I was there at 13:12, but they had closed the doors, and I had to watch them pull away! In Stockholm, I've been hanging out with. Who I met at my hostel in Bang...
Astronomoms: Doubting

On being an Astronomer and a Mother. Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Presented at the last AAS meeting shows that 60% of female astronomers suffer from impostor syndrome, the (unjustified) "fear of being exposed by colleagues for a lack of knowledge or ability". In comparison, 47% of male astronomers say they suffer from this. Since these fears could be a factor leading people away from astronomy, it may be one of the many things explaining why so few women make it all the way. So let's make a first baby step he...
