Reptiles and Amphibians in my backyard. Saturday, May 10, 2008. The Garter Snake is the most common snake in the United States. These generally feed on frogs, toads, mice, earthworms, and even small fish. They present many different variations of color but generally have strong back and side stripes. This guy was a bout 15 inches long and posed nicely for this picture. It was hunting by a river. (check out his eye! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Insects in my backyard. Saturday, June 7, 2008. I am unsure whether this is a Cabbage White or not. Some sources say they have a spot or two on their wings and this one certainly doesn't. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Mammals in my backyard: Beaver
http://variousmammals.blogspot.com/2008/05/beaver.html
Mammals in my backyard. Saturday, May 10, 2008. Beavers have a huge range, covering most of North America. They are primarily nocturnal, hiding most of the day in ther huts, which come equipt, by the way, with woodchips that absorb excess moister, and a vent to let in fresh air. Jenny loves beavers. They are neat. I was canoeing once in the evening and managed to offend a bunch of them. They nearly scared me to death by slapping the water together with their tails.
