Peakwalks: April 2008

http://peakwalks.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Images of our walks in Derbyshire. Wednesday, 23 April 2008. Monyash and a blizzard in shorts! We got out AGAIN last week, but not had chance to do pics until now. We went to the village of 'many ashes' (or Monyash as it's now called) and set off in bright sunshine and shorts (at this point, remember the adage 'ne'er cast a clout 'till May is out). The village pub 'the Bulls Head', taken at a jaunty angle (lying on the floor). No - I HADN'T been for a pint beforhand! It was a blizzard, and a very fierce ...

Peakwalks: June 2008

http://peakwalks.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Images of our walks in Derbyshire. Wednesday, 25 June 2008. Reef knolls and chips. We set off up the lovely cobbled alleyway towards the church and open fields. Sue and Dave chat as they walk through the flowery meadows. We soon crested the rise and saw High Wheeldon on the other side of the upper Dove dale. The young river Dove goes along this valley. The quiet woman - how so, I hear you ask? After refreshment, we set off towards the reef knolls of Parkhouse hill, (on left, behind us), then Chrome hill.

Peakwalks: April 2009

http://peakwalks.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Images of our walks in Derbyshire. Saturday, 11 April 2009. Madeira - final day - showers, and our second levada walk. I REALLY like a good cup of coffee (I've been spoilt at 'ricci's), so when we found a good cafe, very close to out hotel that served an EXCELLENT cup, we were very happy. They don't serve it like we do, but it's just as good, and very tasty. Needless to say, we went there almost every day. They were German, and their names were Lutz and Elfi (what a LOVELY name). What about the bus?

walkpeaks: November 2011

http://walkpeaks.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Wednesday, 30 November 2011. In search of Autumn. This year has been a really strange one, weather-wise. It's been far too warm, and it seems to have taken nature by surprise! Nothing seems to know what to do. Flowers are blooming when they shouldn't, birds are laying eggs (a clutch of 7 ducklings appeared last week), and the leaves don't know what colour to be! Not in THAT position, I haven't!

walkpeaks: December 2011

http://walkpeaks.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Friday, 30 December 2011. Lack of walks :-(. What with Xmas and all, we've not had a walk now for almost a month, so REALLY hoping the weather isn't too bad next week when we next get a chance. I DID get a chance to shoot up into the fields above Haddon hall to get some nice shots of it in the sun (which I failed to do on our last walk as the weather wasn't very good). And over towards Chatsworth.

walkpeaks: October 2011

http://walkpeaks.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Sunday, 30 October 2011. Lakes, part three. This is the deadly one - Fly Agaric. There were other flowers around too, some real surprises for us. I snapped this orchid. And, amazingly, a newly-flowering foxglove - in OCTOBER! This weather really was playing havoc with nature. We also called by Aira Force. Sue had seen this before, but I hadn't. With the night rains, it was quite spectacular. The top...

Peak Walks 2: April 2015

http://peakwalks2.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking and photographs, see list for past records. Thursday, 30 April 2015. An evening 'stroll' - 7 1/2 miles. After having no choice but to go to Chesterfield during the day, we felt cheated of a walk on our day off. However, with the nights now drawing out, we decided to go out locally for the last three hours of daylight. I'd seen a picture posted on facebook of bluebells in Cumbria. 'That's strange', I thought, 'they're usually at least two weeks behind us'! Then, after crossing...

Peak Walks 2: August 2013

http://peakwalks2.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking and photographs, see list for past records. Friday, 16 August 2013. A few sunset pictures. As were were headed over Monsal head top, we paused to admire yet another lovely sunset. We also stopped to look over the hill of Wardlow Hay Cop (370mtrs). The sun dips over the horizon, with Wardlow Hay Cop to the right. Stark pink and black. Now we're past the equinox, the sun is starting to set more and more left. See that tree right of centre? It sets BANG behind that on the equinox.

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Monday, 28 May 2012. This single post is dedicated to the fabulous show of some of the flowers in the Peak District. You can simply click on any of the picture to get a slide show. It's rare I dedicate a whole post to one subject, but I wanted to get these up while they were 'in season'. The full walk report will follow in a few days. No more words - the pictures say it ALL. Friday, 11 May 2012.

walkpeaks: February 2012

http://walkpeaks.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Saturday, 11 February 2012. A snowy Bakewell by night. We had a nice fall of snow in Bakewell last Saturday, so Sue and I took a walk around the town. It was lovely. Here are a few pictures. (Click on any picture for a larger image slideshow). The weir at night. Snowy trees and lamplight in the crescent. Postbox and main road. The old, original pudding shop. Untouched entrance to the churchyard.

walkpeaks: June 2012

http://walkpeaks.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Thursday, 28 June 2012. We parked up and got booted up. It was a beautiful morning, and as we set off, we saw this lovely display on one of the cottage windowsills. The imposing church of Clapham. Just below the church are Clapham falls. There was a flat area with seating that would make a nice picnic spot. I always LOVE the sound of tumbling water. Looking back from Trow Gill. Sue steps forward to ...

walkpeaks: September 2012

http://walkpeaks.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Friday, 21 September 2012. Sea' how they run. The vast expanse of moorland. We had only just missed the ‘purple haze’ that the heather gives when it flowers. If you’ve never seen it, it really is a fantastic sight. This view reminds me of when I did the coast to coast walk. This is the penultimate day for walkers on the trip. Looking back. You can see both lighthouses, plus the abbey is now visi...

Peakwalks

Images of our walks in Derbyshire. Wednesday, 6 July 2016. It's been a while since we've been to one of my favourite places - the Manifold valley, just over the border in Staffordshire. I decided to take advantage of the free parking at Wetton mill for the start of the walk. Click on any picture to enlarge it, or see a slideshow. We crossed the bridge, and made our way through the cafe yard and up the valley between Sugarloaf and Wetton hill, with clearing skies ahead. We have no idea? For information on...

Peak Walks 2

A continuation of my walking and photographs, see list for past records. Monday, 15 June 2015. Buxton and the Goyt valley. Well, the Gods were certainly smiling on Sue and I - TWO consecutive Tuesdays with perfect walking weather, even more so this week! We were joined by one of Sue's son John, so I decided to take us to the Goyt valley, and take in the ruins of Errwood hall. We met and parked up on the outskirts of Buxton, with the sun already hot, we headed off - 'uppard's'. We hit the reservoir and tu...
