Anyway, they invited us to stay with them if we returned to France. We did, and a firm friendship was forged. So - we were dropped outside the impressive gates, and off we set to explore. The close proximity of the houses and narrow streets would be a nightmare if there was a fire. This is what we came to do and see, the battlements and towers. After that,...

walkpeaks: January 2012

http://walkpeaks.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Friday, 20 January 2012. Jack Frost nipping at our ears. And we were glad of it too, it meant that the muddy fields and paths were put into stasis by the low temperatures. We LOVE low temp's, so we set off to Great Longstone, where the walk started. These fish seemed quite happy under the ice in a trough outside one of the village cottages. The first signs of spring, as usual - SNOWDROPS! As we reac...

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Wednesday, 29 August 2012. This one is just outside Monyash village. It leads to a row of chocolate box cottages on the outskirts. As you can see, growth is now at full stretch. The only problem with this is that shorts and nettles don’t mix (as Sue and I found out several times today). Pretty cottages and cottage gardens. These ‘peak and northern’ footpath signs are just fab! We came across this &#...

A continuation of my walking descriptions and photos. Previous blogs are listed on this blog in link form. Thursday, 8 March 2012. Tuesday dawned nice, and our first day off for - Oooooo - THREE DAYS ;-) We'd just got back from ten days in Gran Canaria, so to go from this;. To walking in snow was a bit of a shock to the system! A glance to the right saw the face of the 'shivering mountain' - Mam Tor. I am ALWAYS amazed at these walls - seems such a lot of work, and over such difficult terrain! Looking ov...

Peak Walks 2: April 2015

http://peakwalks2.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking and photographs, see list for past records. Thursday, 30 April 2015. An evening 'stroll' - 7 1/2 miles. After having no choice but to go to Chesterfield during the day, we felt cheated of a walk on our day off. However, with the nights now drawing out, we decided to go out locally for the last three hours of daylight. I'd seen a picture posted on facebook of bluebells in Cumbria. 'That's strange', I thought, 'they're usually at least two weeks behind us'! Then, after crossing...

Peak Walks 2: August 2013

http://peakwalks2.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

A continuation of my walking and photographs, see list for past records. Friday, 16 August 2013. A few sunset pictures. As were were headed over Monsal head top, we paused to admire yet another lovely sunset. We also stopped to look over the hill of Wardlow Hay Cop (370mtrs). The sun dips over the horizon, with Wardlow Hay Cop to the right. Stark pink and black. Now we're past the equinox, the sun is starting to set more and more left. See that tree right of centre? It sets BANG behind that on the equinox.
