Postcards from Nowhere

2008 2012. Four years. Four years since I last put down thoughts on this wee space. It's been awhile since I last tried to write a blog entry. I don't know what stops me or what hinders me from making a go of it like I used to in these very pages. Age catching up. Jadedness? A misplaced sense of protecting one's privacy? In the facebook and tweeter age that sounds utterly anachronistic. Maybe, I need to go back to where it really started. Where I took roots, so to speak. Posted by miranila at 9:45 PM.

Postcards from Nowhere: saturday morning with the moonchild

http://postcardsfromnowhere.blogspot.com/2008/02/saturday-morning-with-moonchild.html

Saturday morning with the moonchild. V: My barbie doll is made in. Ang sinabi ko: yes, anak. Because it’s cheaper to make them in. Gusto kong sabihin: Outsourcing ang tawag diyan. Isang manifestation ng globalization. My Barbie doll clothes are fake. Ang sinabi ko: No they are not. They’re called unbranded. Fake is when you pass off something not true as real. V: Why do some people destroy the stuff of the sidewalk vendors? Posted by miranila at 8:59 AM. Yang anak mo talaga, ubod ng curious - which is go...

Postcards from Nowhere: Confused

http://postcardsfromnowhere.blogspot.com/2008/02/confused.html

When Knorr came out with its Makulay ang buhay campaign, I was one of those who were swept up in melodic take, if not too subtle strategy to sell vegetables to kids. The TV ads featured healthy-looking children singing the jingle and obviously relishing their souped vegetables (sinabawang gulay). And the copy was really catchy: Makulay ang buhay sa sinabawang gulay. Posted by miranila at 1:08 PM. Subscribe to Post Comments [ Atom. View my complete profile. Make your own badge here. Postcards from Nowhere: Made up

http://postcardsfromnowhere.blogspot.com/2008/01/made-up.html

And she says no. There’s no one behind the door anymore. She’s packed her clothes and shoes and her dog. She lives in a different room now; facing a different park. She’s made up her mind. She’s somewhere new where you’re not allowed to go. Eating in a new café, chatting up the cool waiter. She’s on first name basis with people who are strangers to you. And it seems strange. To witness this scenario. When just a few blinks ago. You were not a her and a him but a you. Posted by miranila at 10:51 AM.

Where Dreams Are Made: I shouldn't be doing what I'm doing

http://dreamshaft.blogspot.com/2005/11/i-shouldnt-be-doing-what-im-doing.html

Where Dreams Are Made. Monday, November 07, 2005. I shouldn't be doing what I'm doing. Right now I should be writing the minutes of a forgotten meeting. Right now I should be reading Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross's Marvels. Posted by haiku @ 6:34 PM. You have just entered the realm of abstracted musings. Explain your presence. What are you? Why do you exist? Where is your soul? When will you grow up? I told you this is the realm of abstracted musings. Where is my muse? To hell and back. A Summary of Events.

Where Dreams Are Made: 11.04

http://dreamshaft.blogspot.com/2004_11_01_archive.html

Where Dreams Are Made. Friday, November 26, 2004. Finally, after two weeks of running here and there, doing this and that, I am able to come up for air and relish this momentary lull. Thanks to all those who expressed their sympathies over the death of my beloved rabbit. I still miss her terribly and I still cry at odd times. Now, I am spending more time with Vanity, the surviving little ska rabbit. Oh, she's such a precocious one (or not)! That one just loves the jolt, or should I say. The second week w...

Where Dreams Are Made. Wednesday, March 30, 2005. Promises are made to be. What you make of them. Break them, keep them, shelve them, regret them; it's totally up to you. And because I have the upper hand and the keyboard is my subordinate, I will make promises. Yes, simply because I can. I promise to pay more attention to my blog and set aside some time for it or get some cure for my laziness in posting. I promise to play badminton next week. For teaching me how to b display /b html tags. I see I've pro...

Where Dreams Are Made: Stark Raving Mad

http://dreamshaft.blogspot.com/2005/07/stark-raving-mad.html

Where Dreams Are Made. Sunday, July 24, 2005. Here it is. Thank you for waiting patiently. As with all stories, the following is meant to entertain. However, I don't really care if it fulfills such purpose. I'm happy just to share it. And I thought since everybody else is doing it, what the heck, might as well jump on the bandwagon and write my own version of the events that transpired that magical and dreamy weekend-and-a-day. I knew I didn't have the strength to wade through a throng of people just to ...

Where Dreams Are Made. Monday, February 28, 2005. A Book Keeper's Story. On Neil Gaiman's journal. I cried a tear for the lone librarian. Imagine being the sole inhabitant of a municipality! Okay, so she doesn't really feel lonely. Still, I want to hug her. Maybe I just can't picture myself living a life like hers. On second thought, maybe I could- if I had a library all my own, there'd be hardly any time for loneliness as I'd be reading all the books in it! And I would never have to go hungry. Series 9 ...

Where Dreams Are Made: 09.04

http://dreamshaft.blogspot.com/2004_09_01_archive.html

Where Dreams Are Made. Sunday, September 26, 2004. Conceptualization of a dream. I am currently trying to think up a dream. Not the one that a person has when he or she sleeps, rather, that which preoccupies one's waking hours; the one that you spend a good part of your life pursuing. Stemming from my bipolarity. Ergo, the problem: which camp to side with, the creative or the intellectual? Well, that's it for now. Losing lucidity; sleep beckons. Time for that other kind of dream. Posted by haiku @ 6:00 PM.

Late-night, caffeine-induced epiphanies. Coffee and i have a love affair that keeps me awake at night (sometimes). and in those moments, my mind is at its most creative (or at least i think so). Tuesday, March 28, 2006. I'm gonna wear my travelin' pants, at last. In a few hours, I'm gonna fly to Singapore with my mom and sister. Yup! This momma is gonna have a vacation. Needless to say, I am excited. My last trip outside the Pinas was back in 1999! Posted by soulcraftwriter at 2:42 AM. Links to this post.

Tuesday, June 20, 2006. To speak or not to speak. Last December 2005, i finished reading "Possession" by A.S. Byatt. it amazed me how familiar the last couple of pages seemed to me, esp. with regard to Roland's feelings: of being peripheral, a watcher. The memory of that moment kinda reminded me of a john mayer.

Late-night, caffeine-induced epiphanies. Coffee and i have a love affair that keeps me awake at night (sometimes). and in those moments, my mind is at its most creative (or at least i think so). Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Adieu, le petit prince. But it was his time to go and share his story with others. Others who might need his wisdom, as much as I did, as much as I still do. And although I could not read or touch this book for now, I know, truly believe, I shall meet. So maybe it is not really adieu but.

Postcards from Nora Leigh. My adventures in Europe, spring 2011. May 26, 2011. It’s so crazy to think that in eleven hours I will be hauling my suitcases onto the tube one last time, getting ready to catch a flight back to America . Easy and efficient modes of public transportation (I missed driving, but I love not being dependent on a car); the fashion, I’ve seen just about everything! Two days after this run, on March 11, I massacred something in my hip (it was my glute medius tendon at my hip joint) after only 3 miles and it stopped me dead in my tracks. I was devastated! Postcards From Nowhere

May 21, 2015. Recently, I’ve been catching up on some of last year’s films that I wanted to see. Along the way, I decided to seek out Michael R. Roskam’s The Drop. Not only because it looked like an intriguing crime drama, but also because it contained the last role of the great James Gandolfini (God rest his soul). Aside from that, The Drop. Is definitely worth seeing if you’re into this sort of thing. It isn’t easy to come across a solid mob flick nowadays, but I think this is one of the good ones.
