Trying not to come last, the personal fitness blog of Rachel Andrew

Trying not to come last. I’m 39 years old, a web developer, ex-dancer, mother of a teenager, and a fitness nerd. I took up running about five years ago, having never run before, and so far have run several half marathons and The London Marathon. I started the blog here to chronicle my journey to the London Marathon in 2013, a plan that was delayed to 2014 due to falling and shattering my right elbow. This site is running on Perch. I ran The London Marathon 2014. Read more posts on the blog.

I ran The London Marathon 2014 - trying not to come last

http://rachelandrew.me.uk/blog/2014-04-14-i-ran-the-london-marathon-2014

I ran The London Marathon 2014. 14 April 2014 by Rachel Andrew. Yesterday my two-year journey to run The London Marathon ended. I did it! It was the most epic and amazing experience, more than I imagined and perhaps even more so given my deferral and all the surgery of the last year. This post is my recollection of the day – before I forget any of it – and perhaps of some use to other first time marathon runners. The day before and the marathon Expo. The day of the race. At the Blue Start. Just walking u...

I ran The London Marathon 2014. A lengthy write-up of my London Marathon experience. I did it, and it was every bit as amazing and painful as I had imagined. Fitness goals for 2014. An update on the elbow following surgery to remove the metal, and some aims for 2014. Running in the USA - Rock and Roll 10K, Brooklyn. After two weeks of travel around the USA. And Canada, miles and miles of walking around Brooklyn and Manhattan, then three days of conference attending what would be top of your to do list?

Broken. - trying not to come last

http://rachelandrew.me.uk/blog/2013-01-24-broken

24 January 2013 by Rachel Andrew. There is going to be a change of pace on this site – and in my life – for a while. Monday was a really tough day. Getting started fixing this. I got a decent amount of sleep, thanks to a lovely motherly nightshift nurse who helped me figure out the best way to adjust the bed to be comfy. I woke up early and when she saw the light on she popped in to get me coffee and biscuits. I’m used to training. That will help me to stick to all the physio that lies ahead. The initial...

Hello my name is Rachel Rebecca Gemma Andrews. And I was born on the 5th April 2005. I weighed a respectable 3204 grams, which is 7 pounds and 1 ounce in old money. Notice how I have already, at only two days old, learned to get my fists up in a classic pugilist stance, ready to fight off my big brothers.
