Narrow Boat Chalice: Thames is magnificent, but very busy today
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2011/04/posted-by-alancath-last-night-we.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Friday, 22 April 2011. Thames is magnificent, but very busy today. Last night we finally got down to thinking about our options for the rest of the journey. Although we were sure we had probably caught up enough of the time lost over Alan's eye problems, there remained the thorny question about one particular stretch of the Thames which although only just over 5 miles long always places heavy constraints on the journey into London. Of course this stretch of t...

Narrow Boat Chalice: November 2009
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Sunday, 15 November 2009. Once again apologies for my failure to post our boating 'adventures'. I've spent the last couple of weeks frantically trying to cope with the lack of one third of our small department. We have now recruited another teacher who knows one end of a computer from another, and I hope very much, that life will start to return to some degree of normality. Berries by a lock in Berkhamsted. Chalice at Dudswell, only a few locks from 'home'.

Narrow Boat Chalice: May 2010
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Monday, 31 May 2010. Rickmansworth to Kensal Green. Posted by Cath, using Alan's account). A grey and overcast day after yesterday. The alarm went off as usual at 7 am, and again, I had difficulty in surfacing from sleep. I've had a difficult couple of terms at work, and I'm falling asleep all over the place. Alan got up and took Charlie up the towpath for his first walk of the day, while I levered myself from bed and got dressed. Alan had wound the paddles a...

Narrow Boat Chalice: July 2010
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Saturday, 31 July 2010. A Quiet Day With Cath's Father and His Wife. Brentford to Widewater near (Harefield). On two successive trips on the tidal Thames we have tried to take Cath's father and his wife for a trip, but each time he has been busy, (or so he claimed, anyway! They couldn't get to us particularly early, but we should have time, including a lunch stop,. Jim and Dot at Hanwell. Shame there is nowhere else for the bikes! They have always had a kind ...

Narrow Boat Chalice: April 2011
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Wednesday, 27 April 2011. Final day (minus Cath). I don't know why, but didn't sleep well, and ended up sitting in bed quite early, browsing stuff on my laptop. We had arranged with Cath that she would come and have breakfast with us, before she headed into work. She perhaps was not to know that Charlie had not yet had his early morning walk, so that quickly became her first task. Can be quite a challenge, as the boat can get suddenly drawn forward. At a coup...

Narrow Boat Chalice: On to Cliveden Deep
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2011/04/unusually-long-stop-for-tescos-or.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Thursday, 21 April 2011. On to Cliveden Deep. A very hot day. Asked the woman at the checkout. I looked up to see a very fed up Alan, with Charlie, standing at the window, looking in. Embarrassed, I explained that I was trying to do the washing. Huge numbers of these structures were being erected. We went through Henley, where there were the scale of prepar- ations for the regatta was quite remark- able. The river is very wide at this famous place. We sat ben...

Narrow Boat Chalice: February 2011
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Sunday, 27 February 2011. Short Break at Half Term - Fifth and Final Day. Globe Inn, Leighton Buzzard to Cook's Wharf. And even more rain. Even on days like today there are unusual sights to see some places, and Cath spotted a Muntjac deer in the former side-ponds of one of the many locks. It was really quite close, and in no great hurry to run off, despite us being there. I predicted the rain would stop as we approached "base", and I wasn't far wrong. It...

Narrow Boat Chalice: January 2010
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Sunday, 24 January 2010. Oh Dear - Where Did The Blog Go? And Aylesbury Arm in January. Somehow we are nearly in June, and the blog has lain dormant since the start of the year. There are actually some very real reasons for that, as all should become clear, but we are in danger of seeing it die because it is lagging so far behind real time. Subsequent note: It has been pointed out to us now how you can adjust the dates of blog posts - thanks for that! I was v...

Narrow Boat Chalice: Another big push towards home.
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2011/04/another-big-push-towards-home.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Monday, 25 April 2011. Another big push towards home. So we were now committed to trying to get Cath into the best place to be at work tomorrow. Lot Mead - First lock of the day. The Hemel Hempstead area would do, but Berkham- sted would be better, but an awful lot of locks. We had no idea if it would be as busy as yesterday, so agreed to just set off, and see how we did, just accepting what came. The ever scenic Ironbridge lock near Watford. Cath then left w...
