The Global Kitchen: January 2010

A Culinary Journey Around the World. Alton Brown's Mighty Duck. One problem with writing a food blog is you don't always get around to repeating recipes. But that's what I've been doing lately-going through my greatest hits and seeing if they're still great. One good thing about writing a food blog is it motivates me to try new things. Case in point-this duck! If you want to see the episode it is available on You Tube. Part One is HERE. And part two is HERE. I got this recipe via email from my brother wh...

A Culinary Journey Around the World. Crispy Fish Sandwich with Pineapple Slaw. Before I went on vacation I received a HUGE box from Nature's Pride Bread. Full of their new buns and rolls. I buy their bread so I was excited to get these. They aren't in my local grocery store yet but hopefully that will change. I think it's hard to find buns and rolls in the regular grocery store that don't have chemicals and the ones at the natural foods stores can be pretty expensive. 25 minutes Total Time:. Whisk mayonn...

A Culinary Journey Around the World. This is David Chang's take on the Korean dish, Bo Ssam, which is traditionally steamed pork wrapped in a leaf and served with a condiment known as ssamjang and topped with kimchee. I've never had the dish but if it's anything like this it's seriously good! David Chang is the chef/owner of Momofuku, which is an award winning Asian restaurant in New York City. I was steered towards this recipe by Josie on her One Kitchen, Two dogs and a Girl. I also used store bought ki...

A Culinary Journey Around the World. South African Springbok Kebabs with Monkey Gland Sauce. Now before you wonder what I've been smoking, let me say there is no Springbok or monkey in this recipe. It's not like I can get that easily in Phoenix. I got this recipe from Steven Raichlen's Planet Barbecue! 309 Recipes, 60 Countries. Which is one of my new favorite cookbooks. Monkey Gland Sauce is just a traditional South African sweet and hot sauce. Probably named for shock value. I have never made cinnamon ...

In my kitchen, talking to the backsplash. Friday, April 23, 2010. Yes, I know, my god, why is she posting more pictures about that damn garden of hers? I've got several new cookbooks to brag about, too. Several being an understatement: two came in the mail already and I'm waiting on two more. Amazon Marketplace can be addictive. Links to this post. Tuesday, April 13, 2010. Peppers and tomatoes on side patio, that small red pot is full of fennel seeds. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

In my kitchen, talking to the backsplash. Monday, June 21, 2010. I've always been a fan of Jamie Oliver, owning four cookbooks and two of his DVD series The Naked Chef. And Jamie at Home. Allow me to highly recommend the latter for winding down after a very stressful day. Watching him and Brian, his gardener, putz about, discussing bugs and greens and the weather, then watching what Jamie does with his fresh ingredients all make for a very soothing presentation. And there you have it. Links to this post.

In my kitchen, talking to the backsplash. Thursday, May 26, 2011. I'd like to post some lovely, updated photos of my garden for you to say "God, more photos AGAIN? Admittedly, I'm angry that this happened, all my hard work taken away by trash men; a fair amount of money and time lost; and what could have been my best crop ever of tomatoes and peppers, really interesting varieties that I was looking forward to sharing. Gone, just that like, with absolutely no way for me to have prevented it. And, just to ...

http://breadwinecheese.blogspot.com/2012/05/garden-update-day-12.html
In my kitchen, talking to the backsplash. Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Garden update: Day 12. I am very pleased to announce great progress in my garden. I've had to battle early-morning slugs, which have thoroughly chomped through my basil, but my toms and peps are thriving and I've got greens making an appearance. And other things. Take a look. Mixed chicory blend (top); French Breakfast radishes (m); Parisienne carrots (bottom, r); arugula (bottom, m); and Thai chili pepper (bottom, l). Bucks County, PA.

In my kitchen, talking to the backsplash. Thursday, August 12, 2010. I've made bagels before but I had to share this with you:. True bagel success. Using the recipe for water bagels. From King Arthur flour I made some this morning. I don't believe I'll be using my old recipes again. This particular batch used a product called non-diastatic malt powder. Links to this post.
