Istanbul  | Teacher In Transit

https://teacherintransit.wordpress.com/2016/04/01/istanbul

Teaching, Travelling, Living Abroad. April 1, 2016. Last night I slept rough amid the snoring of the 5 other hostel mates. I got some solid sleep from around 5-8 but other than that it was on and off. This wasn’t helped by the prayers starting at 5:43 in the morning. I think they went on for 15 minutes and it sounded, to me, like someone was doing vocal warm ups and not quite ever finding the right pitch. Definitely a positive experience amongst all the negativity in the news recently. We stopped for a g...

Bucharest and Dracula | Teacher In Transit

https://teacherintransit.wordpress.com/2016/04/07/bucharest-and-dracula

Teaching, Travelling, Living Abroad. April 7, 2016. Taylor and I caught an early train from Veliko to Bucharest to meet back up with Justin for the rest of the trip; we’d also meet Geoff here the next day. By the time we got there it was nearing dinner time. We checked in to our hostel and headed towards the old town for some grub. While walking, we passed the massive parks and a lot of communist-style buildings. A stark reminder that Romania isn’t that far removed from its dictatorship. As we approached...

Istanbul to Bulgaria | Teacher In Transit

https://teacherintransit.wordpress.com/2016/04/01/istanbul-to-bulgaria

Teaching, Travelling, Living Abroad. April 1, 2016. I was right; today was a long one. As we walked along the highway we turned back to see the man following us, keeping pace. There was nowhere we could go to lose him we we just tried to keep our distance. We started off again, quickly crossing the bridge into town and as we got close saw a hotel. We turned to go into it’s parking lot and the man finally left us. We were met by a young Bulgarian, Randy, who gave us the rundown of things to do in the area...

Deva and Belgrade | Teacher In Transit

https://teacherintransit.wordpress.com/2016/04/07/deva-and-belgrade

Teaching, Travelling, Living Abroad. April 7, 2016. Another early morning; another train ride. This time to Deva. The ride was long and uneventful. We were all a bit grumpy and tired I think. Our plan for Deva was simple – Corvins’ Castle. So we walked to our hotel, which was about 20 minutes from the station, checked in and got a cab to the castle. The landscape wasn’t as mountainous as we had imagined and, to be honest, it was kind of bleak. Very flat and dull with industry. There were some great stori...

Teacher in Training 12

Teacher in Training 12. Thursday, April 29, 2010. Week 12 - Instructional Methods. Research shows that teachers need to vary the methods of instruction. This week reflect upon the following questions to determine the quality of your cooperating teacher’s instruction. 8226; Rely too heavily on “tell” forms of instruction? 8226; Include “show” methods of instruction to demonstrate the meanings of the material being taught? 8226; Vary instructional methods to ensure meeting the needs of all students? I beli...

Teacher In Training 2017

Teacher In Training 2017. Thursday, July 7, 2016. The Conclusion of ENGL 3043. When registering for this course, I was unsure of what to expect. Of course it is a degree requirement, but I was eager to see what it contained. From the beginning, I know time management was a crucial aspect of online courses. Once it was explained that it was a self-paced course, this became especially true. The tool exploration was my favorite part of this course. Via commos.wikimedia.org. Wednesday, July 6, 2016. April 24, 2014. Blogging with First Graders. After quickly showing the first graders in my class how to make a post to our brand new science blog, I was a little concerned with how this little experiment of mine would go. Even with the simplest of platforms that I could find, there are so many steps and I could see their faces filled with confusion and concern while I showed them how it would work. The students are catching on quick, and the process is going really smoothly! More to come…. March 13, 2014.

Teacher In Transit | Teaching, Travelling, Living Abroad

Teaching, Travelling, Living Abroad. September 4, 2016. We woke up early for a complementary breakfast before getting in the van and heading towards Dubrovnik. Our host was absolutely great. He drove us to an old underground hanger that was several kilometers long. He was one of only a few stationed there during the war and he drove us in the pitch black through the tunnel. The first thing we did was head out to do a walk around the city walls at sunset. It’s hard to describe just how impressive it i...

Teacher in Transition | An old school teacher trying to enter the new world order

February 25, 2011 · 7:59 pm. Where Do I Go From Here? I don’t know when I became the enemy. But it isn’t about education; it’s about money. States need to cut funds and teacher make easy targets becasue the rhetoric politicians use is so easy to buy into. Tell me one teacher you respect that doesn’t want what’s best for students? One teacher that thinks believes teacher’s needs trump student needs? We believe in everything they are saying…but. What they are saying isn’t what they are doing. Shoot…r...

An American Teacher in the United Arab Emirates

An American Teacher in the United Arab Emirates. This blog covers my adventure moving to the other side of the world- the United Arab Emirates. Friday, October 19, 2012. Ok, I have had a rough past couple of weeks. In the beginning, I had some pretty bad abdominal pains and I visited the emergency room of the Shiekh Khalifa Medical City Hospital. Since my husband has not gotten his driver's licence yet, we called an ambulance. That was a fiasco! Now before this moment, I was thinking coming to the U....

Teacher in Wonderland

Having Fun Along The Way! Monday, August 5, 2013. Isn't it great when you have extra helping hands in your classroom! I love when my students are willing to help with anything they can but it can turn into chaos if you just let them do whatever they want. To avoid any conflict between students we agree on what jobs they will do. Here are the jobs I created with a description of each. Click picture to get document). Hope you find these useful and that your students like them! Saturday, July 27, 2013.

Teacher in Wonderland | What a long strange trip…

What a long strange trip…. DISCLOSURE: I wrote this back in Feb. when I stopped posting on this blog. I didn’t post this, but it was how I felt. It isn’t directed at the school I previously worked at only, but all schools that treat their teachers like they’re factory workers and not respected, intellectual contributors in the educational process. … Continue reading →.
