Teaching in Indonesia: June 2014

http://teachinginindonesia.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 29, 2014. RAJA AMPAT, IN WHICH WE LOOK AT AND EAT A LOT OF FISH. Without feeble references to dental office posters that is? My main concern, heading into this blog, is a dearth of appropriate adjectives I can use to describe the place. "Beautiful" doesn't really cut it and I'm at risk of over-using it anyway. Other options would include "gorgeous" or "stunning" but even so, what are these next to a picture? I'll include what pictures I can, and let them do what my paltry adjectives cannot.

Teaching in Indonesia: May 2014

http://teachinginindonesia.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 2, 2014. THE REST OF 2013 (INCLUDING VIETNAM) PART II. We have the day off because it's Indonesia's Labour Day, like a lot of other countries. This term has had a lot of random one-day-off-in-the-middle-of-the-week holidays. By Nicole's reckoning, only 4 out of 11 weeks this term are full five-day weeks. Seems like a good day to blog. That's why I brought a different camera back with me for 2014 - one that isn't so delicate and can stand being tossed around in a backpack a bit more. Needless ...

http://amberslifeinjakarta.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-batu-caves.html

My Life as an Expat. Noun 1. expat [ɛksˈpæt] - a person who is voluntarily absent from home or country. Saturday, May 10, 2014. Okay, this place was a MUST-SEE! Plus, it was the cheapest place we visited the entire time we were there! Ryan and I are really into history and very open-minded so it was a wonderful experience to visit such an important temple to Hindus. To get to the Batu Caves, we had to take Malaysia's equivalence of the subway. We grabbed some Roti boys (of course) and were on our way.

My Life as an Expat. Noun 1. expat [ɛksˈpæt] - a person who is voluntarily absent from home or country. Sunday, August 25, 2013. I'm going, going - back, back - to Bali, Bali. Every August, Indonesia has about two weeks off in celebration of Ramadan, a Muslim holiday. The whole country basically goes on vacation! I love it. I will definitely miss it next year when I am back home but the summer break in June and July will make up for it. So it was nice to be able to go off and do my own thing. Jakarta is ...

My Life as an Expat. Noun 1. expat [ɛksˈpæt] - a person who is voluntarily absent from home or country. Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Please pray for Kevin. Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have - life itself.". My Life as an Expat. Noun 1. expat [ɛksˈpæt] - a person who is voluntarily absent from home or country. Thursday, June 28, 2012. I survived teacher orientation! In this video I also filmed part of the view of the city. I hope it's clear enough for you guys to see but you should at least be able to hear the man singing. This is a video of the kampung or the little poverty stricken villages that you see all over Jakarta. I filmed this on the bus ride home from school. So Elaine, the trend continues :).

I do have to say that while I'm still adjusting to the day to day operations of being at home, I do really appreciate being back in the great state of Minnesota. I did not feel this way the first few weeks I was back - when I was shoveling for my parents who are wintering in Florida. Yes, they are "wintering" in Florida.
