Art of Family Travel: Fall Foliage in New York, Vermont
http://theartoffamilytravel.blogspot.com/2010/10/fall-foliage-in-new-york-vermont.html
Fall Foliage in New York, Vermont. Seven years ago, Aaron and I packed up and drove straight to Canada and the eastern states - a 7,000 mile pilgrimage just to catch a glimpse of mother nature in her finest hours. It has since then become my favorite time of year. A few weeks ago, we were blessed to have that feeling overcome us again, and pack up and head north to embrace our beloved. And for that very reason, signing up for a packaged tour turned out to be a great idea - On the. Maid of the Mist. Along...

AoF Creative Crafting: snowman multi-media art
http://theartoffamilycreative.blogspot.com/2013/02/we-spent-cold-winters-afternoon-making.html
We spent a cold-winter's afternoon making our rendition of a snowman, using multi-media. Originally inspired by Deep Space Sparkle. This is a great way to have the kids use different forms of media to create one thing. And, it makes for beautiful art to display this time of year. even if you can't go out and make a real one. Using thick paper, paint your "landscape" in layers. then set aside to dry, and return to it later {or use a blowdryer if you're impatient like us :) }. From left: Noah, Ava and Me!

AoF Homestyle: bedroom armoire
http://theartoffamilyhomestyle.blogspot.com/2011/01/bedroom-armoire.html
This armoire has a questionable past. It's got old charm, brassy handles, tiny leg wheels and sturdy tongue-and-groove shelving. needless to say I had to rescue it from curb-side {ahem. last year.}. And since then, it's looked like this - and I've been too afraid to temper with it. Wood is beautiful. But then again. so is white! A delicate pink tray I picked up from an antique store. an ornament from my last trip to Fredericksburg. So what do think? Do you like the white? By The Art of Family. Simple tem...

AoF Creative Crafting: leprechaun's pot of "gold" - goody bag
http://theartoffamilycreative.blogspot.com/2011/03/leprechauns-pot-of-gold-goody-bag.html
Leprechaun's pot of "gold" - goody bag. In search of celebrating St. Patrick's Day with the kids. I decided to do a treasure hunt - and needed to make something to stash their candy in. After reading One Minute Crafts. I forgot to watch the video, but the instructions are good enough} here's how they turned out:. I folded the sheet of felt in half so that I'd have a closed bottom, and sturdier hold. There's a one-minute video. I had gold pipe cleaners I was going to initially use for the handle, but then...

AoF Creative Crafting: umbrella art
http://theartoffamilycreative.blogspot.com/2011/04/umbrella-art.html
This is a fun project to go along with a "rain" theme. And for the simple fact that the kids get to blow bubbles to make the "colorful" rainy look. It helps to cut out the craft supplies and prepare the bubble-syrup before hand and then pull out the tray when there's rain in the forecast. I used a smaller tray to contain a separate activity {pipe cleaners for making the Itsy Bitsy spider}. Umbrella Supplies {per child}:. Afterwards, cover the dried colorful swirly-design with the second transparent sheet...

AoF Reading Corner: Picture This by Alison Jay
http://theartoffamilylibrary.blogspot.com/2010/12/picture-this-by-alison-jay.html
Picture This by Alison Jay. Picture this. is a table top book for kids - where each page is filled with objects correlating to the ones before it. Common among Jay's books, this one is no exception. It's a spectacular first word book to give as a gift to a beginner reader. And we love to look at the pictures in this book over and over again - we keep it in the family room. Art of Family Travel: making summer memorable - alys beach 2011
http://theartoffamilytravel.blogspot.com/2011/07/making-summer-memorable-alys-beach-2011.html
Making summer memorable - alys beach 2011. Our 4th annual family beach vacation was a memorable one. As I shot these photos, I couldn't help but remember the years traveled. So we left at 3am on Saturday and headed east - to Alys beach. The furthest beach we've stayed at along Florida's Gulf Coast. We arrived by 6pm, changed, and raced to feel the tip of the ocean. Which is what the kids have been waiting to do with us since the last snowfall. Days 2 and 3. After I spoke to my Dad, Ava turned to Aaron an...

AoF Homestyle: laundry re-do
http://theartoffamilyhomestyle.blogspot.com/2011/03/since-weve-reconverted-5th-bedroom.html
Since we've reconverted the 5th bedroom "conversion" back into a "garage" last year, our point of entry has changed significantly. And I didn't realize how much it bothered me until things started piling in the laundry room, were misplaced, and worse - took us longer to get out the door. So we had to get creative. With our space, which opened right into the laundry room. Aaron attached these to a painted white piece of scrap wood we had, and then screwed the entire piece onto the wall. The old metal ...

AoF Reading Corner: sloppy joe by dave keane
http://theartoffamilylibrary.blogspot.com/2011/01/sloppy-joe-by-dave-keane.html
Sloppy joe by dave keane. We first read this in the store, and a few weeks later, found it on the shelves at Half Price Books. It's one of Noah's favorites! He loves the idea of being messy - because he is most definitely not. And it is in this pretend play that he gets a kick out of seeing the mess Joe gets into at home. How his family can't keep up, and how sometimes, it's not so "great" to be messy after all. Catalogued Under: ages 3. January 26, 2011 at 6:26 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
