AoF Reading Corner: sloppy joe by dave keane

http://www.theartoffamilylibrary.blogspot.com/2011/01/sloppy-joe-by-dave-keane.html

Sloppy joe by dave keane. We first read this in the store, and a few weeks later, found it on the shelves at Half Price Books. It's one of Noah's favorites! He loves the idea of being messy - because he is most definitely not. And it is in this pretend play that he gets a kick out of seeing the mess Joe gets into at home. How his family can't keep up, and how sometimes, it's not so "great" to be messy after all. Catalogued Under: ages 3. January 26, 2011 at 6:26 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

AoF Reading Corner: The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf

http://www.theartoffamilylibrary.blogspot.com/2010/12/story-of-ferdinand-by-munro-leaf.html

The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf. The story is simple, yet so foretelling, about a bull who doesn't want to do or be anything but himself. This is another favorite book of mine that teaches young children about self-confidence, and how sometimes having this, takes us to new places. Catalogued Under: ages 3. January 26, 2011 at 6:28 AM. Our sons are 35 and almost 30. My husband still quotes from this one: Ferdinand - please do something! One of the pleasures of life is how good books stay with us.

AoF Reading Corner: Picture This by Alison Jay

http://www.theartoffamilylibrary.blogspot.com/2010/12/picture-this-by-alison-jay.html

Picture This by Alison Jay. Picture this. is a table top book for kids - where each page is filled with objects correlating to the ones before it. Common among Jay's books, this one is no exception. It's a spectacular first word book to give as a gift to a beginner reader. And we love to look at the pictures in this book over and over again - we keep it in the family room. The Art of Family: playing at the edge of the earth

http://theartoffamily.blogspot.com/2008/05/familysand-and-water-what-summers-of.html

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. Playing at the edge of the earth. Watched Ava's natural curiosity tip toe on the wet sand, and focus on the cold rush of baby waves washing over her feet. Un tan lotion mixed with the hot air, half naked bodies going in every direction, music blaring from store vendor booths, metal screeching against wood and children screaming with their hands in the air - mom and dad completely to us - this is what. Happy Birthday t...

The Art of Family: Weekend Getaway - Houston, TX!

http://theartoffamily.blogspot.com/2012/09/weekend-getaway-houston-tx.html

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. Weekend Getaway - Houston, TX! Labor Day Weekend. was quite frankly, a celebration of our parenting labor. With the first week of school out of the way, workers at our house daily, and our day jobs, it just seemed only natural to "get away.". By Thurs. we switched from "camping to somewhere in Texas" to visiting the Space Center in Houston. And we were all thankful for that - because it was another hot weekend! My kin...

The Art of Family: for the love of books....

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. For the love of books. As a child, my library card was. In elementary school, my librarian, Nina Rubin, was my favorite soul in the entire school. It was because of her that. Baboushka and the Three Kings. I highly recommend setting up a book wish-list through Barnes and Nobles or Amazon - it's a perfect and ideal way to grow your library - and get the books. You want and will enjoy reading to your kids. Carries many ...

The Art of Family: green beans please

http://theartoffamily.blogspot.com/2012/09/green-beans-please.html

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. With our new kitchen remodel almost completely done - my vow to start cooking has arrived. *Gulp* But it wasn't until the kids came home "starvin'" after school that really propelled me to wear the apron. But what about these others. green beans, peas, asparagus, etc. They are so foreign to me, that unfortunately my kids aren't growing up eating them either. They are vibrant and beautifully green. Crunchy and soft...

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. Hmmm what's this shiny red bubble? Oops It did. How do I get this off? Wow - cool. Look what I just did. Hold it right there buddy! That's ok Ava. Let's all paint together. We need some more colors. Ava, do you know what happens when you mix blue with yellow? I'm done with my picture. Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. I don't know what it is about V Day that I dread. and yet am tickled by when it's here. Maybe it's because I'm still coming out of the xmas, new year, Ava's birthday. Maybe. Repurposing crayons into hearts. [ find out how we did ours. The Art of Family: one small step for ava... one giant leap for me

http://theartoffamily.blogspot.com/2008/06/one-small-step-for-ava-one-giant-leap.html

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. One small step for ava. one giant leap for me. Ready or not, here I come! That's exactly how I felt when Ava started summer camp this past Monday. I mean, c'mon - didn't I just give birth to her? Ready for friends, classrooms, and teachers with rules? She should be. They are. But interesting. And she will learn so much from them. The first to arrive and the last to go - I was the Mom from planet paranoia. I watche...

http://theartoffamily.blogspot.com/2008/12/baby-its-cold-outside.html

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. Baby it's cold outside. My eyes barely open this morning, and I still couldn't believe what I saw. Snow. White. Soft. Snow. Falling. Ava couldn't decide what to do. Frozen in her boots, she was frustrated with her layers. Meanwhile, Noah took this opportunity to play outside and enjoy himself. Ava finally got around to picking berries, but then realized she couldn't actually. Mom, it's cold,". Wednesday, December 17, ...

We spent a cold-winter's afternoon making our rendition of a snowman, using multi-media. Originally inspired by Deep Space Sparkle. This is a great way to have the kids use different forms of media to create one thing. And, it makes for beautiful art to display this time of year. even if you can't go out and make a real one. Using thick paper, paint your "landscape" in layers. then set aside to dry, and return to it later {or use a blowdryer if you're impatient like us :) }. From left: Noah, Ava and Me!

That night, Aaron rolled up his sleeves and started removing the popcorn ceiling. between the two of us the first two days, we emptied 11 spray bottles of water.
