Art of Family Travel

Weekend Getaway to Houston, Texas. Labor Day Weekend. was quite frankly, a celebration of our parenting labor. With the first week of school out of the way, workers at our house daily, and our day jobs, it just seemed only natural to get away. By Thurs. we switched from camping to somewhere in Texas to visiting the Space Center in Houston. And we were all thankful for that - because it was another hot weekend! By Friday, Aaron and I booked our hotel. And purchased our City Passes. Day 1: The Health Museum.

Art of Family Travel: making summer memorable - alys beach 2011

http://www.theartoffamilytravel.blogspot.com/2011/07/making-summer-memorable-alys-beach-2011.html

Making summer memorable - alys beach 2011. Our 4th annual family beach vacation was a memorable one. As I shot these photos, I couldn't help but remember the years traveled. So we left at 3am on Saturday and headed east - to Alys beach. The furthest beach we've stayed at along Florida's Gulf Coast. We arrived by 6pm, changed, and raced to feel the tip of the ocean. Which is what the kids have been waiting to do with us since the last snowfall. Days 2 and 3. After I spoke to my Dad, Ava turned to Aaron an...

Art of Family Travel: Fall Foliage in New York, Vermont

http://www.theartoffamilytravel.blogspot.com/2010/10/fall-foliage-in-new-york-vermont.html

Fall Foliage in New York, Vermont. Seven years ago, Aaron and I packed up and drove straight to Canada and the eastern states - a 7,000 mile pilgrimage just to catch a glimpse of mother nature in her finest hours. It has since then become my favorite time of year. A few weeks ago, we were blessed to have that feeling overcome us again, and pack up and head north to embrace our beloved. And for that very reason, signing up for a packaged tour turned out to be a great idea - On the. Maid of the Mist. Along...

Art of Family Travel: making memories with sand in my toes

http://www.theartoffamilytravel.blogspot.com/2010/06/making-memories-with-sand-in-my-toes.html

Making memories with sand in my toes. Sometimes you just have to go for it. Abandon the fear, anxiety and "what if" scenarios that spiral into the abyss of our minds. As adults, our thoughts are capsuled by these very things -. Worrying about anything and everything. But if we simply watch. Our children are the very ones that teach us how to be fully. Free and present among ourselves. By the time the sun peaked at high-noon, we were ready to enjoy the beach - from. Where the views and comforts of. That e...

Art of Family Travel: promises

http://www.theartoffamilytravel.blogspot.com/2009/07/promises.html

Beach vacation we started last year, faced many obstacles this year. Aaron and I deliberated back and forth whether or not this was something we should forego and pick back up when the kids are older. My parents and sister were traveling out of the country, work was piling up, and the need to save now. More than ever - were all working against the dream. The recent adventure to PV. Would have sufficed our need to bury 40 toes in the sand - except our family. Is really a bigger one -. I can still smell.

The Art of Family: playing at the edge of the earth

http://theartoffamily.blogspot.com/2008/05/familysand-and-water-what-summers-of.html

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. Playing at the edge of the earth. Watched Ava's natural curiosity tip toe on the wet sand, and focus on the cold rush of baby waves washing over her feet. Un tan lotion mixed with the hot air, half naked bodies going in every direction, music blaring from store vendor booths, metal screeching against wood and children screaming with their hands in the air - mom and dad completely to us - this is what. Happy Birthday t...

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. For the love of books. As a child, my library card was. In elementary school, my librarian, Nina Rubin, was my favorite soul in the entire school. It was because of her that. Baboushka and the Three Kings. I highly recommend setting up a book wish-list through Barnes and Nobles or Amazon - it's a perfect and ideal way to grow your library - and get the books. The Art of Family: green beans please

http://theartoffamily.blogspot.com/2012/09/green-beans-please.html

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. With our new kitchen remodel almost completely done - my vow to start cooking has arrived. *Gulp* But it wasn't until the kids came home "starvin'" after school that really propelled me to wear the apron. But what about these others. green beans, peas, asparagus, etc. They are so foreign to me, that unfortunately my kids aren't growing up eating them either. They are vibrant and beautifully green. Crunchy and soft...

The Art of Family: one small step for ava... one giant leap for me

Is the process by which we create, discover, learn and grow with those we cherish most. One small step for ava. one giant leap for me. Ready or not, here I come! That's exactly how I felt when Ava started summer camp this past Monday. I mean, c'mon - didn't I just give birth to her? Ready for friends, classrooms, and teachers with rules? She should be. They are. But interesting. And she will learn so much from them. The first to arrive and the last to go - I was the Mom from planet paranoia. I watche...

We spent a cold-winter's afternoon making our rendition of a snowman, using multi-media. Originally inspired by Deep Space Sparkle. This is a great way to have the kids use different forms of media to create one thing. And, it makes for beautiful art to display this time of year. even if you can't go out and make a real one. Using thick paper, paint your "landscape" in layers. then set aside to dry, and return to it later {or use a blowdryer if you're impatient like us :) }. From left: Noah, Ava and Me!

That night, Aaron rolled up his sleeves and started removing the popcorn ceiling. between the two of us the first two days, we emptied 11 spray bottles of water. This process was actually a lot easier than I thought - but the clean up was overwhelming! Mental note - use drop cloths next time! We then contracted the work to float and paint the ceilings. while we scoured the city {and beyond} for the remaining details.
