The Weaver's Studio

The Weaver's Studio. July 8, 2015. June 29, 2015. Tonight I cut off of my loom what has been, without a stitch of embellishment, the finest piece of weaving I have ever done. The sett was perfect. The hand, indescribable. The structure, subtle enough to be present but not overwhelming. And after 12 inches of weaving, I cut it off. All 500 odd ends of yarn, 3 yards long, painstakingly wound and measured, threaded and tensioned. Gone, in the blink of a satisfied scissor’s snip. You have your house keys....

The Weaver's Studio. Getting Back in the Saddle. May 31, 2015. When growing up around horses, one of the first things that you learn – that you are told ad nauseum – is that if you ever fall off, the first thing you need to do is get back on that horse. Measuring out the warp ends on the warping mill. The warp chain sitting pretty, ready to go on the loom. The threading was finished tonight. I also spent a large part of my morning planning my first project to go on this little girl:. You’ll see tha...

The Weaver's Studio. Back At The Loom. September 20, 2015. After a few months off getting settled into my new home, I’m finally back weaving! Here is a sneak peak of my work in progress from Level 1 of the Olds College Master Weaver program. More on that later it will be taking up much of my weaving time over the next few months. Plain weave color gamp. I’ve also finished up a lovely set of 12 shaft tea towels on the loaner loom from one of the weavers I met at the HWSDA conference. Take a peak:. Before ...

About Me | The Weaver's Studio

http://theweaversstudio.ca/about

The Weaver's Studio. My name is Keely and I am a writer, weaver and engineer living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have been a passionate weaver since 2012, when a friend of mine brought a rigid heddle loom to knit night (more in this post here. Only a short while later I fell down the rabbit hole and several looms later, I am currently weaving on an 8-shaft Macomber floor loom (see this post. For more information about Macadamia). Inevitably I expect that more looms will make their way into my life.

Creative Thoughts and Observations. Monthly Archives: January 2015. A few days ago one of my Facebook friends from school in California posted a graduation photo from our 8th grade graduation in Fair Oaks. Everyone looked a bit glum (teenage angst? I’ve dealt with this displacement trauma which I faced as a twelve year old (or at least I thought I had) and there it was staring me in the Facebook. I mean it was a nice blue dress and it was a black and white photo. Through a storm.”. I’ll let you know.

Creative Thoughts and Observations. Monthly Archives: October 2014. Chris and Louisa’s visit flew past and I’m so glad I had so much time with them given all they had to achieve in a short time. She confirmed what I say about the NHS and found her time here invaluable as she contacted the policy makers and practitioners in her field of Genetics. They are packing up to go home, but I know they are well and send them off with blessings. In between hospital visits, life is about celebrating the “ordin...

Creative Thoughts and Observations. On Being Just a Little Bit Swedish. Margereta, Monica och jag (me) – today. Shortly after they arrived, my brain did its not so familiar switch to Swedish and I relished remembering words I didn’t think I knew any more. One third of an acre of land at the top of Glenashdale with a view of the hills and the sea. https://lynn330.wordpress.com/2015/04/30/first-of-may-excitement-and-anticipation

Creative Thoughts and Observations. First of May – Excitement and Anticipation. The first day in May reminds me of beautiful and exciting things. There’s the custom that if you put a posy of wild flowers under your pillow you’ll dream of your true love. On Mayday morning if you bathe your face in the morning dew, your skin will look more youthful and you’ll find your true love, if you don’t already have one. Speaking of gardeners, through a friend I’ve discovered a new plant for my collection. A mother a...

Creative Thoughts and Observations. Monthly Archives: December 2014. The Old Year Passes. I have to start with the weather, because these past days it has been absolutely stunning. Bright winter sunshine, sparkling in the frost which covers everything, warm enough to bring the spring bulbs peeping up in the garden. No wind! Which is just as well because tomorrow I’m headed for Edinburgh for a follow-up check from my transplant surgery which to date is going very well. This has been an amazing year! I an ...

September 24, 2011. From A. Finch. July 31, 2010. Baby shower- July 25,2010. July 3, 2010. One of the Robin triplets fledged the night before (when I scared him walking out the front door), but these guys waited last night or this morning to leave the nest. They are such quick learners! These guys made a home in the Boston ferns I hung on the porch this year. It made a very safe and happy home for them, not such a happy situation for the fern. June 10, 2010.
