Whisking It Up!

Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Daring Bakers October Challenge 2010. This challenge was perfect since I have spent the past few weeks at home in Michigan where donuts, apples, and cider are plentiful right now. My dad and I did this challenge together, and the donuts were delicious! I decided to make the yeast donuts. I did half cinnamon sugar and half with an apple cider glaze. I also filled a few with my mom homemade strawberry jam. Those were messy but delicious! Hands on prep time - 25 minutes. Place t...

Whisking It Up!: May 2010

http://whiskingitup.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 27, 2010. April Daring Bakers Challenge - Piece Montee. This month's Daring Bakers provided a challenge I have always wanted to try.croquembouche! I knew it would be a challenge not only for obvious reasons, but also because we recently moved to our new home in Missouri, and thank you US Army, we have a dreaded electric stove. Thankfully, with my trusty oven thermometer by my side, we pushed through and had another successful challenge! For the Vanilla Crème Patissiere (Half Batch). Return ...

Whisking It Up!: My friend Beth, the Sandwich Queen!

http://whiskingitup.blogspot.com/2010/08/my-friend-beth-sandwich-queen.html

Tuesday, August 17, 2010. My friend Beth, the Sandwich Queen! My friend Beth, who blogs over at This American Wife. Has been a lifesaver over the past few weeks on the recipe front. I have been feeling anything but motivated recently when it comes to menu planning, and she passed along some awesome, easy, and delicious recipes. She had a post recently about Yummy Summer Eats. And she said they were delicious so I had to give them a try. The first night, marinated a pork tenderloin in a Maple Garlic Glaze.

Whisking It Up!: October 2008

http://whiskingitup.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 8, 2008. Being from Michigan, I love the fall. Not only does it mean changing leaves and fall decor, but also that the Michigan apples are ready for picking. This fall I have been very homesick, and I figured nothing would perk me up more than Mom's apple pie. 7-8 large apples (I like to use a variety including Gala, Macintosh, Granny Smith, etc.). 1/2 to 3/4 cup brown sugar. 2 refrigerator pie crusts. 2 Peel, core, and slice apples. Place in a large mixing bowl. Coarse Salt and Pepper.

Saturday, October 31, 2009. Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Daring Bakers Challenge October 2009 - French Macarons. This was my first month as a part of the Daring Bakers, and my first time definitely proved to be a challenge! This month's recipe was brought to us by Ami S. She chose macarons from Claudia Fleming’s The Last Course: The Desserts of Gramercy Tavern as the challenge recipe. Surprisingly, those five ingredients proved to be far more intense than I realized they could be. If you plan on using parc...

This American Kitchen: Christmas Eve and The Feast of the Seven Fishes

http://thisamericankitchen.blogspot.com/2011/12/christmas-eve-and-feast-of-seven-fishes.html

Saturday, December 24, 2011. Christmas Eve and The Feast of the Seven Fishes. I wasn't too sure about making some big crazy prime rib or something (because I like cooking, but don't want to eff myself over and be the fool who ends up having to order out on Christmas Eve because something went terribly wrong). Here's what I'm making. Because I'm being lazy on this one). I'm using Flounder instead of Tilapia. Chez Lorraine's Baked Salmon. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). This American Kitchen: Penne a la Vodka

http://thisamericankitchen.blogspot.com/2012/02/penne-la-vodka.html

Monday, February 6, 2012. Penne a la Vodka. I took the recipe from my friend, Aubrey. Who got it from someone else, so I'll just post it for you and if you get the urge, go check out her blog here. Penne a la Vodka. 28 oz can crushed tomatoes. 4-6 cloves of garlic, minced. I used a heaping TBSP of minced jarred garlic because I'm too lazy to mince my own garlic). 2 tablespoons olive oil. 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes. A TSP was hot! 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley. Or 1 tablespoon dried). Fish Tacos...

This American Kitchen: Cheese and Sausage Quiche

http://thisamericankitchen.blogspot.com/2011/06/cheese-and-sausage-quiche.html

Friday, June 10, 2011. Cheese and Sausage Quiche. We have this for dinner a few times a month. D loves breakfast for dinner, and this is a great way for me to feel like we're eating a real meal and not just eggs. It is adapted from a recipe I originally found on AllRecpices.com, but I pretty much changed everything. Lots of times we just have the quiche, but I also like to serve it alongside a green salad. 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust. 1 lb ground breakfast sausage (we use the spicy kind). I mean, the co...

This American Kitchen: Spicy Sweet Nuts

http://thisamericankitchen.blogspot.com/2011/11/spicy-sweet-nuts.html

Wednesday, November 9, 2011. I made these nuts last Winter when I was craving some toasty nuts. They are very good, but the flavor is very strong. I could only eat a few at a time, which made them perfect for snacking. They would be great to serve at a holiday party! 1 teaspoon white pepper. 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg. 1 teaspoon ground cloves. 1 teaspoon ground allspice. 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper. 4 cups pecan halves. 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted. 1/3 cup maple syrup. I Cook(e) You Clean. Not necessarily just a food blog - although I will post lots of that - but just my little piece of the blogosphere that I can call my home while I travel all over the place. Wednesday, July 21, 2010. A Long Long Day. A long day yesterday - made for a long day today - and it's not even done yet. Yesterday I had to make the two hour journey East to St. Louis. Well I, being who I am, did not leave when I had intended to do so. I first. Why a hotel you may ask? Hehehe it made me laugh.

Holiday cookies are my favorite. Last year I made these to-die-for Brown Sugar Pecan cookies (beware the addiction). Now, they are a staple dessert in my house. Although I love trying out new cookie recipes, I would never neglect the classic thumbprints. They are simple to make and absolutely delicious (especially paired with a cup of lemon tea)…. Whisking It

JHB / The Jungle. Written by Lexi Monzeglio. Posted in Weekend Wanderings. The menu was quite simple but has enough options to cover any mood. It isn’t particularly health orientated, but if you eat eggs you can have a healthy eggs & sausage et al type breakfast. The food was DELICIOUS. Really tasty… I love food that is simple but has been cooked with care – and that’s exactly what it tasted like. JUICED: Day 5/5 & Overview. Written by Lexi Monzeglio. Posted in Product Reviews. Mini Series: Art of War 2 (Presidential election). Friday, December 12, 2008 - 0 comments. Mini Series: AOW - McCain and Obama. To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself. Found this Chapter in the AOW which sheds some light in the U.S Presidential Election 2008. As a debate enthusiast, though not an American, I was engrossed with the Presidential election. The war of words between a veteran and a newbie. I thought...
