Cooking With Georgia

Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Being Georgia’s Mom is Awesome. Often I hear people saying they can hardly wait for school to start so they can be rid of their kids. Sometimes it is said in a joking way, but more often than not it is accompanied by an exasperated tone. People also like to say things like “oh just wait until the terrible twos! Certainly there are the WTF? Moments, but they stem more from my lack of understanding of how Georgia feels at that particular moment or a certain developmental mileston...

Cooking With Georgia: Baking Is So Much More Fun!

http://cookingwithgeorgia.blogspot.com/2013/07/baking-is-so-much-more-fun.html

Friday, July 5, 2013. Baking Is So Much More Fun! Here is the thing: I don’t actually like to cook. Bake – sure. I LOVE to bake. What I hate about cooking is the day-to-day meal planning and find that I am just not the kind of girl who can whip something up in a flash. One of my most profoundly held beliefs is almost all 30-minutes meals suck. 8211; mmmmm. Heck, I've even carved a mellon into a swan and filled it with fruit salad. They learn by example, no? Plus, Georgia is in the midst of some sort of h...

Cooking With Georgia: January 2013

Tuesday, January 29, 2013. She Eats What We Eat. This is my parenting philosophy in a nutshell:. That is not to say that our house is covered in plastic toys or Georgia will never be given boundaries or discipline. Quite the opposite, actually, but right now day-to-day life revolves around her schedule and needs/preferences to the extent possible. When she was three months old, we declined to drag Georgia along to a fancy restaurant, garnering a very huffy “Well! THAT CHILD is three months old! At 10-mon...

Cooking With Georgia: February 2013

http://cookingwithgeorgia.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 10, 2013. One of the things that really resonated with me in “Bringing Up Bebe” is French children don’t snack all day. The grazing like cattle habit that is so prevalent in American child-raising simply does not happen. The children eat three meals a day plus an afternoon snack. The end. Georgia also does not eat between meals. She does eat five times a day and at some point, I hope to whittle that down to three main meals and an afternoon snack. There will be no grazing in the ...While...

Julie's Brain: August 2013

http://juliesbrain.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

I'm going to give you a piece of my mind. Thursday, August 01, 2013. Year of the Cicada. So as most everyone knows, we had the emergence of the 17-year cicadas here in the Northeast this Spring. Creepy things - a couple of inches long with weird red eyes. We dreaded the arrival of them. Tolerated them when they were here. I can't say I miss them now that they are gone, but looking back on it I'm glad we were here to experience them. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Year of the Cicada.

Julie's Brain: May 2012

http://juliesbrain.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

I'm going to give you a piece of my mind. Friday, May 25, 2012. One thing I love about our town is that it is SMALL. There are about 30,000 total people in the town (there were more than that at each of the two universities I attended! And about 6,300 total students in the school district - one high school, two middle schools, six elementary schools and one kindergarten school. This year Alex had a piece in it and Grace had one that she did as a group project. Closer view of Alex's artwork. I was going t...

Julie's Brain: March 2012

http://juliesbrain.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

I'm going to give you a piece of my mind. Friday, March 23, 2012. Alex and I were looking at all the forsythia blooming around town the other day (and they are blooming EVERYWHERE - beautiful big yellow bushes everywhere). I commented how yellow they were, that they looked like highlighters. Alex's response was "Yeah, NEW highlighters! Friday, March 16, 2012. Notice almost three weeks earlier than usual. Crocuses are the next ones to bloom. I love these white ones with the purple stripes. I'm itching to ...

Julie's Brain: Sunday Paper Tidbits

http://juliesbrain.blogspot.com/2014/10/sunday-paper-tidbits.html

I'm going to give you a piece of my mind. Sunday, October 26, 2014. It's been almost a year since my last post, but I just love a couple items I saw in the paper today. So a little history and a little volunteerism - much nicer to read about than Ebola. Maybe we should volunteer to live in it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Julie's Brain: June 2012

http://juliesbrain.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

I'm going to give you a piece of my mind. Thursday, June 28, 2012. A little more done. Actually the drywall and lights we've had for a while, but I haven't posted the pics yet. The floor is just finished. Drywall on one side of the kitchen. And the other. The wall to the right of the door will have a brand new set of cabinets - we will end up with a U-shaped counter vs. the L-shaped one we previously had. Our new tile floor that I love love love! Looks like slate but is actually porcelain ceramic tiles.

I'm going to give you a piece of my mind. Sunday, April 01, 2012. My own personal Grouch. Yep, that would be my youngest. Conversation in the car:. Me - "Let's go to the Bronx Zoo by ourselves on Wednesday." (friends can't make it with us). Alex - "No, I don't want to do that.". Jim - "Well, we are going to a Broadway show next weekend. Julie's Brain: It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

http://juliesbrain.blogspot.com/2013/12/its-beginning-to-look-lot-like-christmas.html

I'm going to give you a piece of my mind. Thursday, December 19, 2013. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. A post once a quarter? I need to do a little better than that). I'm ready for Christmas. While I was rushed for a while, it seems so easy now that the gift-buying is done. AND the gift-shipping to Texas is done - that was a big sigh of relief to get out the door. I can't really do any baking because I no longer have a stand mixer. Advent calendars. In addition to these three, we have th...

Julie's Brain: Last Florida post

http://juliesbrain.blogspot.com/2012/12/last-florida-post.html

I'm going to give you a piece of my mind. Friday, December 28, 2012. Of course you can't go to Orlando without giving some money to Disney. We hit Magic Kingdom one day and Epcot the last day. We didn't get as many photos these days - since the hurricane had passed, these days were starting to approach typical Florida-in-August weather, and we were starting to get worn down from all the walking we were doing on the trip. Had to get a photo of the castle. Jim and Alex on the Dumbo ride. Need to come back.
