160;Monday, August 1, 2011. I am a dill pickle lover, but have never conquered the process. My oldest daughter, however, has experimented for a couple of years and come up with a pretty good procedure! From the garden to the jar, it's been fun to watch her develop her own special recipe. About 8-10 Kirby cucumbers, washed. Soak your cucumbers for two hours in a mixture of:. 2 gallons of cold water to 1 cup of pickling lime (in a non-reactive container). Yield: 4 quarts of dill pickles. Posted by Judy W.

Tried and True: Ginger Snaps. 160;Tuesday, July 10, 2012. So my husband gave me the America's Test Kitchen Family Cookbook. Last year for Mother's Day. I'm not terribly fond of changing things that work, so I haven't used many recipes from it to this point. However, last week I decided to shake things up a bit and see if I liked any of the recipes in this cookbook better than some of my "tried and true" recipes. The first on my list is a family favorite . Ginger Snaps. 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour. Reduc...

My sewing projects and musings. Wednesday, March 23, 2011. G Street in Rockville in March. Not one thing caught my eye. Nothing called my name. Not one bolt needed attention, to be petted, to be cut. The store seemed almost empty. I bought basic lining (black and creme). I picked up some buttons to match fabric from my collection. Wednesday, March 2, 2011. My sewing projects and musings. Thursday, December 22, 2011. No Dart FBA for Kay. Pattern piece altered in 3 areas: Front neckline, bust, front center hemline. For my former shape (since reduced) I added 1 inch at the neckline and center front hemline for this no-dart technique. I had this surgery in June and I am still unable to wear a traditional b r a – I’m still wearing a sport’s b r a and will be for quite a few more months. Therefore, I’ve been told, I have a uniboob....And I’m quite self-...

160;Saturday, August 11, 2012. I know it's truly summer when sweet corn comes into the local farmer's market. Today I put up 21 quarts of some gorgeous butter and sugar corn to enjoy this winter. The ears are HUGE this year, yielding some of the sweetest, juiciest kernels I've tasted in a long time. Here's what my morning looked like . . . Next comes the messiest step . taking the kernels off the cob (de-cobbing! Just under four hours later I put the last bags into the freezer . happy to think of eat...

160;Saturday, February 23, 2013. This dish is a nice alternative to the same ole eggs and ham for breakfast. Bring the pointed edges of the dough over top of the egg mixture in the middle . pinch together to make a "braided" shape. This easy to m...

160;Friday, October 16, 2009. These are a perennial favorite around our house. Every year in October we make a big batch of cut-out cookies shaped like pumpkins. When my kids were little they had great fun decorating with colored icing, sprinkles, candy corn . whatever we had handy in the kitchen. Now I make and decorate and the kids enjoy them when they get home from work or are visiting from school! 1 teaspoon baking powder. Roll dough about 1/4" thick. Use favorite cookie cutter. Remnant: January 2013

My sewing projects and musings. Friday, January 25, 2013. We bought a new home after being here several years, after living in corporate (furnished) rental, after selling our home in another state (11 hour drive) 2 years ago, and after putting almost all our worldly possessions into storage where they remained those 2 years. I mention this for a reason. After living in corporate rental for years, I was so excited to get my own things back, to enjoy and to decorate, to be ME! I had opportunity in November...
