Saturday, June 8, 2013. Along County Road 7. Today Mrs. L4T and I had to head north for a graduation party in International Falls. Since there has been a tremendous dearth of railfanning in these parts recently I cleared a deviation from the Highway 53 routing and we headed west to follow the former DMIR right of way. Made it as far as South Coons before we spotted our first victim, a loaded pellet train sitting at the signal. Third unit in that consist was a beauty. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Christoph...

look4trains.com: September 2013

Friday, September 13, 2013. I have had past chances to shoot multiple maroon units in a day, most recently last spring during a trip up the NSSR. To retrieve coal empties that had been stored during the winter. In that case, though, both were museum pieces. Today, I got one of those, along with an active DMIR unit. Sunday, September 8, 2013. Seems like a good title for a post discussing the life and times of a greenhorn steam engine crew member. Many of you are likely aware of the fact that I've rece...

look4trains.com: Fading Away
http://look4trains.com/2014/10/fading-away.html
Sunday, October 12, 2014. While the title could be applied to my blogging career, in this case it's not. Instead I thought I would take the opportunity to explain some of what I've been doing in the basement lately. Here's a visual example:. So I've gathered up a small supply of tools and material, for example, this stuff:. And then I go to work as shown in the link to Jeremy's Dry Brush Technique, above. Here's one final example of what I've been fooling with. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Locatio...

look4trains.com: Operations!
http://look4trains.com/2015/01/operations.html
Saturday, January 24, 2015. There are a great many enjoyable aspects to model railroading. As you know if you are a long time reader of look4trains, creating new things from scraps has always been one of my favorites. Another thing I've always enjoyed is imagining how the minature world I'm constructing would fit into the larger transportation system. Here's a shot of the power on Kent's train as it approacheds the helix that will take it down to the staging level. So even with some hiccups, it was great...

look4trains.com: February 2015
http://look4trains.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 1, 2015. A couple of days after last weekend's shakedown op session on my layout. Dan Mackey sent out a text announcing a trial run on his huge, still under-construction WC layout. I snapped up the invite and planned for a fun evening with a group of like-minded model railroaders. I'm looking forward to doing it again. When this layout is done, Dan will have to bus in people to keep it all operating. It's gonna be a sight to see, that's for sure! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Brian Ambrose...

look4trains.com: Your Challenge if you Choose to Accept it: Numberboards
http://look4trains.com/2014/11/your-challenge-if-you-choose-to-accept.html
Saturday, November 22, 2014. Your Challenge if you Choose to Accept it: Numberboards. While my model railroad layout is not strictly "date limited", it is clearly a modern day layout. There are still good numbers of Cascade Green diesels on the modern day BNSF, but as far as I know they are all patched to the reporting marks of the current railroad. As a result, the unpatched BN units I still was running bugged me. Yesterday I set out to correct this. This morning, I sat down and thought. "Surely", I...

Malaysian Rail Fan: 29109: Keruing in Tanjung Malim
http://malaysiarailfan.blogspot.com/2009/06/class-29-in-tanjung-malim.html
I like trains, always have, always will. I like the way it clangs and shakes and rolls side to side. I like the romance, the grime and the waiting at a station on a wet day. Everything I like about trains and some things I don't like about trains you can find here. Wednesday, June 3, 2009. 29109: Keruing in Tanjung Malim. Class 29 Co-Co Locomotives are built by Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works in China and are named after hardwood trees. No 29109 is named after the hardwoord Keruing. Class 29 ha...
